Susan Tormanen Obituary
Bernardston, MA - Susan Beth Tormanen (formerly Goller), 64, of Bernardston, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on September 22, 1960, in Northampton, MA, Susan was a woman of many passions. She loved spending summers gardening with her husband, Charles Tormanen, diving into her favorite books, and indulging in her love of shopping. Susan grew up in Northfield, where she formed lasting memories and deep connections within the community. She attended Northfield Elementary School and later graduated from Pioneer Valley Regional School. After high school, Susan pursued a career in cosmetology, attending Keene Beauty Academy in Keene, NH. It was during this time that she forged many lifelong friendships with her clients and colleagues.
In 1996, Susan married her beloved Charles, and together they welcomed their daughter, Annika, in August 2001. Once she became a mother, Susan transitioned her career to Bernardston Elementary School, where she found her true calling. Her deep love for helping others and her strong sense of community led her to work as a preschool and kindergarten teacher. Susan touched the lives of many young children and supported countless parents, especially new mothers, as they navigated the emotional journey of leaving their children at school for the first time. Susan adored her work and continued at Bernardston Elementary until her retirement in 2023.
In the winter following her retirement, Susan enjoyed some well-deserved relaxation in Florida with Charles. She also cherished family vacations, whether in Florida, Maine, or elsewhere.
Susan is survived by her husband, Charles Tormanen; their daughter, Annika Tormanen; and two stepsons, Charles J. Tormanen of Millers Falls, MA, and Christopher J. Tormanen of Greenfield, MA. She is also survived by her brother, Jeffery Goller (Nicole) of Broadalbin, NY; her sisters, Jennifer Letourneau (Donnie) of Bernardston, MA, Hilary Goller Hansell (Chris) of Jacksonville, FL, and Gretchen Goller Ingram (Nate) of Aston, PA; and her mother, Cynthia Omasta of Spring Hill, FL. Susan was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Goller (deceased 1993).
A wake will be held on January 10, 2025 from 4-6P.M. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave. Northfield, Mass. with a celebration of Susan's life planned for the summer. Susan's warmth, compassion, and love will be forever missed. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful community for their unwavering support during this difficult time. I am blessed to have known Susan and had the pleasure of working with her at Bernardston Elementary school over several years, where she shone brightly and was always a joy to be around. She cared deeply for the students there and gave so much of herself for those children, while also offering her unyielding support and encouragement to those she worked with, myself included. Her nature was warm and welcoming, always with a sense of fun, good humor and a beaming smile.
I am saddened to learn of her passing but am encouraged by the love she shared with those around her. I wish to extend my deepest condolences and love to her family, coworkers and friends, of which I know she had many. She is dearly missed.

New in town when our family opened up the falls river inn....be honest it was hard not to fall in love with the girl...made you feel comfortable. Later she would bless our establishment as one of the best first impressions a restaurant could have,
Who wouldn´t want to be welcomed by her sweetness . A true gem of a person, irreplaceable. We were new to the biz back then but she was the measuring stick of what a great first impression anyone would want to welcome folks to town or for meal.. always amazing to see her at the elementary school and have our kids also feel

Susan was a wonderfully kind and gentle soul, who ALWAYS greeted folks with a genuine smile. She was a teacher, a daughter, a sister, a mother, a wife, and a friend.
