Cecil Sullivan Obituary

Cecil H. Sullivan passed away peacefully in Porterville, CA on July 12, 2014 at the age of 90. Cecil was born on August 31, 1923 in Oklahoma City, OK to William and Elsie Sullivan. He is one of nine siblings and was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
In 1939, at the age of 19, he left Benton, AR and moved to Fresno, CA. To support the WWII war effort he moved to Richmond, CA and worked in the Kaiser Shipyards from 1944-1945. After the war, he relocated his family to Porterville where he made his home until his recent passing. Cecil worked as a dairy products distributor serving the local businesses in the Porterville and surrounding communities for 40 years. Cecil was involved with the Porterville youth and was instrumental in the early development of Porterville's youth baseball programs. His family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed reminiscing about his friends and family and their hunting and fishing trips together, especially his salmon fishing trips to Canada with his son Steve.
He is survived by his wife Gwen Sullivan, his daughter Virginia "Jini" and son-in-law John Stewart, sons Steve and Ron, step children Shirley Mitchell, Gary Potter and Charlene Powers. Additionally, he leaves behind 14 loving grandchildren and 19 loving great-grandchildren who will all miss their "Grandpa". Cecil has left all of us with many wonderful memories. His hearty laughs and joy for life, family and many friends will not be forgotten.
Visitation will be at Myers Funeral Home, 248 N. "E" St., Porterville, Sunday , July 20, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

I wish to express my sincere condolences to Mrs. Sullivan, Steve, and family; for the man I used to call “Mr. Sullivan”. I have great memories of Cecil; one of which was sitting at the family's kitchen table during my high school years with Steve enjoying big bowls of the Knudsen ice cream that he used to deliver to so many stores in the area. He always told me it was the very best! I not only remember him as being a kind and wonderful family man; but also a man who set an excellent example of work ethics and responsibility. You are all in my thoughts during this time.
Sincerely,
Kellie Hyder Poliseno
