Danny Lamb Obituary
Danny Allen Lamb
Danny Allen Lamb of Porterville, 78 years of age, passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on February 21, 2025.
He was born at the old Porterville Hospital on Third Street, on August 14, 1946, to Hazel Marie and Harry Virgil Lamb. Both parents predeceased Danny. Virgil passing in 1973, Hazel in October, 2023. He was also predeceased by his only sibling, his brother Dale Lamb, who passed in February, 2014.
Danny's education years were all spent in the Porterville School District, graduating from Porterville Union High School in 1964. In his early years, he picked up the habit of smoking. One day when he was 10 years old, he was visiting at his great-grandmother's home when he snuck out the back door to have a cigarette. His great-grandmother's next door neighbor also had family visiting that day. Cute little Cheryl McClanahan, also 10 years old, caught Danny puffing away. Indignantly, she promptly went next door and tattled.
Apparently this experience wasn't a deal-breaker. When Cheryl turned 16, Danny called her and told her he wanted to date her. On November 20, 1964, they were married.
Danny is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cheryl, and two sons, Darin Lamb (Michelle), and Devin, four grandchildren, Janessa Ragsdale (Whitney), Dustin Lamb (Julease), Haylie Lamb, and Nathan Lamb, plus four great-grandchildren, Colten Ragsdale, James Luckett, Devin Lamb, and Julianna Lamb.
When Danny and Cheryl were married, he was working for an olive plant in Strathmore. When it closed down, he went to work for Suntreat for the next ten years, then decided he wanted to get into dry walling. He started working for his uncle, Bill Lamb, but after two years decided to strike out on his own. His skills soon became known, and it was not unusual for a builder or contractor to specifically ask for Danny to do his job.
While living in Lindsay, the Lambs accepted Foster Children with Special Needs into their home. A commendation from Nazarene Mission International in January, 2018, tells it best.
F"or over twenty years, Danny and Cheryl opened their home and hearts to over 400 foster children: girls, boys, toddlers to teens. Each child experienced a loving home environment and was introduced to Christian values. May God bless you both."
When Danny and Cheryl were approaching their 50th Wedding Anniversary, their loving family planned a celebration. Danny was never fond of surprises and would've put the brakes on any big plans if he'd heard about it.
Not to be put off, Jennifer Lamb, a daughter-in-law, and Janessa Ragsdale, a granddaughter, secretly put together all the details for the big event. They went so far as to gather up clothing for both Cheryl and Danny. Their boys, Devin and Darin, told their parents, "Put these clothes on and get in the car with us. Don't ask any questions."
When they pulled up to the beach below Studio Drive south of Cayucos, the rest of their family was waiting. Cheryl's brother, Stephen McClanahan, an ordained minister, promptly remarried them on the beach. They all returned to Cayucos Park, not far from the pier, for a big celebration.
Darin, the oldest son, describes the heart of Danny Lamb the best. "Dad was a hard worker. But he always made time to take his children and grandchildren camping and fishing."
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Hillcrest Cemetery.
