David Geffken Obituary

David Allen Jan. 17, 1950

Jun. 26, 2025

David Allen Geffken (age 75, of Porterville) passed away on June 26, 2025. A private memorial will be held.

Dave was born in Akron, Ohio in 1950 to Gene and Naomi. He was raised in Akron, Hawaii (1950s), Sunnyvale and Lemoore. He graduated from Lemoore High School, West Hills College, and attended CSU Fresno.

Dave married Renee on December 28, 1978, in Las Vegas. They have two daughters, Karmen and Lorna, and a grandson, Michael Chance Jones.

Dave served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, trained for the Fleet Marine Force, and, lastly, was a Neuropsychiatric Technician. He was stationed in San Diego, Camp Pendleton, Okinawa, and Portsmouth, Virginia. He worked at Porterville Developmental Center for nearly 30 years, a place where he felt he made a difference.

Dave enjoyed fishing with the goal of fishing all the California piers. He was also known as Mr. Baseball and began playing in the Babe Ruth League, and lettered at Lemoore High School. He loved the SF Giants and Oakland As.

Throughout his life, Dave continued to perform classic rock and surf music in many cities, singing and playing his beloved bass guitar. Central Valley bands included The Invaders; The Spats; Pierre and the Deuces; The Sullies; The Banished Blues Band; Rainbow Bridge (1970s); Rainbow Bridge Redo (1990s); The Beach Band; and The Blue Jackets.

During retirement, Dave and Renee recorded songs for an album. Dave composed the music and lyrics, and played all the instruments. Renee produced and mixed the album.

Dave is preceded in death by his mother Naomi, father Gene, and brother Jeff. Dave is survived by Renee, Karmen, Lorna, and Michael Chance, as well as his cousins Vicki Bothmann of La Habra, and Karen (Geffken) Dixon of Akron, Ohio. His cherished friendships were with his soul brothers_Dennis Gallegos, Bill Bilhou, and Steve P.

The Geffken family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Rebecca Escobar, NP; Maria, Shari and Lourdes of SEVA Home Health; the Alzheimer's Association; and the supportive family and friends.

Dave was one of my dearest friends and was so since we were in high school. We played music together for many years, through many different bands. He was an excellent bassist, vocalist and writer. I will miss him dearly. He was my brother!

I very much enjoyed working with Dave at PDC. He was always willing to go along with my crazy schemes to take some very involved folks on outings. He never said I told you so when they backfired! So sorry he couldn't be here longer to love his family.
