Jared Holve Obituary

Jared Erwin Holve, age 71, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on March 27, 2022 doing what he loved - taking care of his cattle on his ranch in Springville, California. Jared was born on January 29, 1951, in La Mesa, California to Donovan Gustav and Jeane Carroll (Forbes) Holve.
After several years of living in Southern California, the family relocated to Fresno, California in 1956. Jared attended elementary and junior high in Fresno, spending his summers at Camp Sierra, where his dad was the camp manager. In 1963, they made their home in Clovis, California. Jared attended Clovis High School, played baseball, football, and basketball, and was involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA), winning grand champion steer at Cow Palace his junior year. He graduated from Clovis High in 1969 and was drafted by the California Angels in the 1969 MLB June Amateur Draft. He played first baseman for two years. He then attended Fresno State University, studied agriculture and farm mechanics, and joined the Sigma Chi fraternity.
In 1974, Jared moved to Springville, California where he started his family and his lifelong career as a cattle rancher. As a serial entrepreneur, he also started his own business in the 1980s, Valley Oaks Ranch Supply (selling ranch equipment) and eventually, Springville Beef (which had a big following for his locally raised grass-fed beef sold at farmers' markets). He was also the top western U.S. sales rep for Roto Grind, selling their tub and grain grinders for the last 30 years. In 2017, he and his family opened The Station in downtown Springville, featuring Jared's own Christmas tree lot during the holiday season.
For over 35 years, Jared shared his love of baseball, coaching Little League, Babe Ruth, and High School baseball all over Tulare County. He was also passionate about music and was his wife Patti's biggest fan, seen in the crowd at most of her singing gigs from here to NYC. Because of his love of music and sharing it with others, he headed up Bigfoot Productions, bringing established songwriters and recording artists to the Springville and Porterville area, producing concerts enjoyed by many.
When he could break away from his duties as a cattleman, Jared loved traveling and taking on big adventures. He spent a lot of time at Grass Valley Ranch in Nevada, loved Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and was obsessed with the water towers atop the buildings in NYC while visiting his daughter during the time she lived there. If he wanted to cool off and relax, you could find him at his beloved cabin in Camp Nelson. But his favorite place on Earth was going to the backcountry by horse, hiking, or on one of his Fat Cat motorcycles, and ending up at Mallard Lake, above Fresno at 10,000 feet elevation. He found peace fishing and taking in the scenery and loved sharing his little piece of heaven with his friends and family.
Most of all, Jared loved his family and would do anything for them any time. Being a grandpa was one of his biggest joys in life and he loved teaching his grandchildren about cattle, baseball, fishing, and the great outdoors; showing them the importance of hard work, how to fix things, and how to catch salamanders; and whenever the occasion arose, pulling their teeth.
Jared is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Patricia Torrey of Springville, California, daughters Brooke Grigsby (Jason) of Springville, California, and Sarah David of Morro Bay, California, and sons Brandon Holve of Raymond, Washington, and Aaron Johnson (Becky) of Springville, California; nine grandchildren: Ryan Holve, Jasmine, Aiden, and Donovan Grigsby, Hudson, Rowen, and Gavin David, and Lincoln and Walker Johnson; brother Bradford Holve of Nashville, Tennessee; sisters Donna McKeown (Jeff) of Emigrant Gap, California and Stephanie Winney (Fred) of Camp Nelson, California; and many extended family members and an abundance of wonderful friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Donovan and Jeane Holve, and brother Gary Holve, who passed away as a baby.
There will be a Celebration of Life held in his honor on June 4, 2022 in Springville, California. For more information or to RSVP, please email [email protected].

Just heard about Jared's passing today. I often think of Jared as my Little League coach and even played a little slow pitch softball with him and some of the guys from Springville. Now that my daughter is playing competitive Fast Pitch I often tell her some stories about playing for Jared and those left handed pitches he threw. Was able to speak to him a few years ago at the Apple Festival while visiting from Idaho. To his family, I am so sorry for your loss. He was a great guy!

My sympathies to the family. I enjoyed my times with Jared. I would see him for 3 days every year for many many years. We would talk and laugh about events of the year and what is coming in the new year. I will miss seeing, and talking with him at the Ag Show. RIP my friend.

Patti and family
So sorry for your loss.
Even though I only knew Jared for a relatively short time, I will always feel privileged to have been included to share adventures at Mallard Lake . He was a kind and good person that I am great full to have had the chance to be friends with. I felt honored to be trusted to sell his wonderful beef products.

Patti, I was so saddened to hear of Jared's passing. What a fun and beautiful man he was. Just wanted to let you know that I'm praying for you as you grieve. Hugs to you and the family.

Brooke, I'm so sorry, sweet friend. There are no words that adequately express the loss of one's dad, but just know that I love you and am praying for your tender heart. Hope to run into you again soon so I can give you a proper hug. (I can't be at the memorial as it is my great-grandson's first birthday party, but I will be thinking about you and praying for you.)

Beautiful tribute to our "Gentle Giant!" Burr and I were so fond of Jared. He would always greet us with a warm smile and those sparkling eyes! Our little community has lost a treasure. I´m attaching a photo taken in December, 2007, at our wedding at the Springville Inn. Sending love and hugs!

I met Jared in Idaho Falls, Idaho while we were playing baseball for the California Angels Organization, Rookie League. We had some great times playing all over Idaho, Utah, and Montana, traveling in a bus sometimes 12 hours. We kept in touch over the years watching our sons compete against each other in high school. Jared was a fun person to be around, always smiling, always ready to help. We lost a special man, and friend. We always remember that smile and warmth.
