Marie Langston Obituary

Marie Elizabeth Langston, of Bakersfield, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 14, 2014, after a brief illness.
Marie was born on December 6, 1919 in McComb, Oklahoma. She was one of 11 children born to Nancy Elizabeth and Clarence H. Waits. She married Claude Hinton "Hint" Waddle on January 2, 1937. They had three children and farmed in Pinal County, Arizona. Hinton became ill and passed away in 1953. Marie held various jobs and worked hard to care for her three children. During much of this time, she and her children resided in Oroville, California. A job opportunity brought her to Pixley, CA in early 1959, where she met William "Bill" M. Langston. They married in late 1959, relocated to Terra Bella, and later on to Porterville. Marie worked as a meat wrapper for Poplar Locker Service and later for Jones Locker Service, until retiring in 1979.
Marie was very active in The Church of the Nazarene in Terra Bella, until relocating to Bakersfield in 2003 to be closer to family members. She loved the Lord with all her heart and until the very end shared the good news with those that she met. She loved teaching the little ones the old songs and stories. She was known for her beautiful quilts, sewing, and wonderful home cooking. She also enjoyed entertaining large groups of friends and family for impromptu Southern style dinners.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Hinton, second husband Bill, three sisters, seven brothers, several aunts, uncles and in-laws, and a granddaughter, Janet Denise Hinds.
She is survived by sons Claude Waddle (Dolores) and James "Jim" Waddle, daughters Mary Ann (John) Rodgers and Karen (David) Wheeler and stepsons William "Bill" T. Langston (Patsy) and Gary Langston, 18 grandchildren, more than 20 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, as well as loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Public visitation will be available on October 27, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's memory to Hoffmann Hospice, 8501 Brimhall Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93312.
The family would like to thank the Hallmark Assisted Living staff for the care provided in recent months, and especially Hoffmann Hospice and their staff for their help and support during Marie's final days.
Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die." John 11:25-26 NLT
