Michael Swaney Obituary

Michael
was born on February 4, 1964 in Huron, South Dakota to Lois and Ronald Swaney. He moved to Porterville when he was 8 months old. He attended elementary and middle school and finally graduated from Monache High School where he played varsity tennis and football. He worked his way through school and graduated with his Bachelor in Science from Fresno State University and his Masters in Science in Human Nutrition from the University of New Haven. He moved to Bakersfield in 1993 where he met his wife Carrie-Anne. They married in Canada in 1996 and had 2 beautiful children, Madison and Alexis. Michael worked as a consultant dietitian at many healthcare facilities in Bakersfield, throughout the years and made many friends along the way.
Michael loved life and felt no day should be wasted. He woke each day with goals to be accomplished and felt you could succeed with anything if you worked at it. He never wanted anyone to think negative thoughts. Michael had many interests and hobbies and every one he pursued with passion. But his highest achievement was being a dad. And he was a GREAT dad. Always attending every function, taking pictures, playing tennis, going to the gym and so many other things too numerous to list.
Michael went to be with the Lord suddenly on June 17, 2017. He is survived by his wife Carrie-Anne, daughters Madison and Alexis, mother Lois Swaney, brother Kevin Swaney (Tina) many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Ronald Swaney.
We would like to thank everyone for all their love and support during this diffucult time.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 04-08pm at Greenlawn Mortuary at 3700 River Blvd. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 1030am at Valley Baptist Church, 4800 Fruitvale Ave. A private burial will be attended by family.

I only recently found out about Mike's passing. My condolensces to his family. I knew Mike through tennis and we had many conversations in the gym. To Madison, I wanted you to know that when your father talked about you and your tennis play, he beamed with pride. I could tell he was a very proud father.

We are all blessed to know and befriend such a wonderful man. He was truly a renaissance man. Knowledgeable in every subject. He inspired me in every way. He was always encouraging others to be their best. Mike was a devoted and caring husband and father. He will be truly missed, but never forgotten! We love you Mike!

Carrie-Anne, Madison and Alexis,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Michael's passing. My prayers and thoughts are with you through this very sad and difficult time. Although our paths separated when I returned home to PEI, you have crossed my mind many times. We will never know God's plan but may you find peace in your loving memories of a dear and kind husband, father and friend.

Keeping you close in my thoughts and prayers, DeeDee Rappe.

I met Mike in 1994 when our wives were roommates. In all those years, I can't recall him ever saying a bad word about anyone. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Mike Swaney was a fabulous and patient preceptor and "brand new RD" trainer. What I know about practicing dietetics is because of Mike's ability to help me see the big picture. He taught me how to communicate with physicians and how to advocate for nutrition when a physician might need some persuading. I never met his family but I knew all about them because Mike talked about his wife and kids all the time. Again a huge loss for our dietitian community. And I bet the angels in heaven are having to change their diets as I write this!

I know how both Mike and Carrie-Ann touched many lives here in Bakersfield , making it a healthier place. Mike had the best smile and an positive aura that changed any setting.
