Richard Lee Obituary

Richard Seymour Lee

Richard Seymour Lee, 78, of Springville, Calif., passed away on Oct. 16, 2025.

Richard was born in Valentine, Neb., on Dec. 31, 1946, to Marion and Margaret Lee. He grew up on a cattle ranch near Brownlee, Neb. Richard attended schools in Valentine and Kearney, Neb. He spent his youth working on his family's ranch. Richard enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and searching for arrowheads in the Nebraska Sandhills. He competed in rodeo in both high school and college.

After college, Richard moved to Las Vegas, Nev. It was there he met his future wife, Susan, a school teacher from Wisconsin. So as luck would have it, a Nebraska rancher met a Wisconsin farm girl in Las Vegas and were happily married for over 50 years. Richard and Susan moved to Exeter, Calif., in 1975, where they grew oranges and walnuts. A few years later, their son, Mitchell, was born. Loving the foothill area, they moved to Springville in 1980. Richard worked nearly 25 years in management for AutoZone in Porterville, Calif.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Marion & Margaret Lee, a brother, John Lee, of Brownlee, Neb., and a sister, Annie Simianer, of Mitchell, Neb.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, his son, Mitchell, a sister, Peg (Chuck) Waller of San Mateo, Calif., a brother-in-law, Lyndon (Dolores) Nelson, of Woodbury, Minn., and sisters-in-law Dianne (Fred) Liethen of Appleton, Wis., Kathy (Chuck) Vold of Grass Valley, Calif., and Kay Lee of Thedford, Neb., as well as many nieces and nephews.

At Richard's request, no service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Valley Children's Healthcare Foundation, 9300 Valley Children's Place M/S PCl7, Madera, CA 93636.

Dear Susan, I was so sad to hear of Dick's passing. What a fine picture you put with the obituary. Dick was a high school classmate. My husband and I visited you long ago while you were building in your orchard. I have always had a sympathetic understanding of Dick's leaving the Sandhills. I, too, couldn't have the cattle ranch. Primogeniture and all that, plus being female. I am a retired English teacher and have returned to Nebraska to be near family. I can't imagine what a gap is left in your life at this time, but I hope you have many friends there who will hold you closely as you grieve.
