Susan Hilbert Obituary

Susan Blue Hilbert

Susan Blue Hilbert was born on March 14, 1940 in Iowa, and passed away peacefully at age 85 in Monterey California on June 25, 2025 at 11:15 AM.

Susan graduated from the University of Wyoming at Laramie in 1962, with a B.A. in German and a minor in English. She taught high school German and English two years in Thermopolis, Wyoming. She married John Hilbert, June 13, 1964, in Lusk, Wyoming and they eventually made their way west to settle in Porterville, California and build their life and family.  Susan was a piano accompanist for Porterville High School choir for 19 years and thrived as a homemaker and mother.

She was a faithful Christian and very involved in her church, playing piano and on the worship team.  She loved her womens Bible study group.  She was dedicated to her daily practice of Bible reading, prayers and worship time, even in the last weeks of her life.  When recently asked what she was most proud of in her life, she answered, My relationship with the Lord.

In the last days and hours of Susans life, she was surrounded by loving family and friends.  She is survived by her brother, Richard Bardo; her children, David and Fran Hilbert, and Becky and OB Morton. She leaves a rich legacy of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Vanessa Trevino, Sarah Duran and Jaime Guzman, Mariah Hilbert and Oscar Ceja, Natasha Hall, Abbey Hilbert, Finnigan Morton, Jeremiah Hilbert, Nolan Morton, Izaiah Trevino, Audrina Trevino, Adrian Ceja, Nehemiah Guzman, Andrea Ceja, and Serenity Guzman.

A Graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Porterville, California on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM.

I was just THINKING of Susan the DAY she passed and did not know it! John and Susan were the BEST Christian "encouragers"!!! That couple stepped in to help me both "grow" in my faith and "support" me in the WORST time of my life when my ex husband was cheating on me during our marriage and when he eventually left out little family. They helped me "raise" my children in the Lord by subscribing to a Christian "parenting" magazine which helped me for YEARS. SUSAN and I both played piano for churches.. and shared a lot of common interests including Christian worship. Her friendship was critical in my life when life got "critical. When John got sick I will never forget her "wheeling" him into the nursing home "church service" which I had been leading at the time. John declined rapidly during that time but it was special to spend his last days ( although very very sad) with him. It was really weird how it was just a few days ago I was getting out of the shower and thinking if Susan wondering how she's been doing. God OFTEN "talks" to me when I'm in the shower! PERHAPS He (or Susan)was telling me she finally moved to Heaven! Anyway... what a BLESSED LIFE John and Susan had...and what an IMPACT they both had in this world...and in my own little life! WHAT an EXAMPLE to follow and I'm looking forward to reuniting with BOTH of them someday!!!
