Wanda Meier Obituary

Wanda Meier, 71, of Terra Bella, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in Porterville, California.
Wanda was born January 20, 1947 in Santa Ana, California, to William and Dorothea (nee Boehner) Mack. She was baptized into Christ on February 16, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Orange, California. Her faith was confirmed on April 10, 1960 at Peace Lutheran Church in Tustin, California.
Wanda's younger years were spent growing up in Orange County, California. Her family moved to the Terra Bella area in 1962. Wanda graduated from Porterville High School in 1964 and received her Associate's Degree from Porterville College.
Wanda married George Meier of Porterville August 31, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church in Terra Bella, California. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters and two sons. George and Wanda lived for a few years in Los Angeles and then returned to Terra Bella in 1975, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Wanda worked for a time at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home of the West and at Bank of America; however, most of her career was spent at the Sequoia National Forest Service in Porterville. She began in accounting and then moved to engineering. She retired after 30 years in 2011.
Wanda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Terra Bella. She was active in various aspects of the congregation during her life. She was a member of the school board and Parent-Teacher League; she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). She also served in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District of the LWML.
Wanda always loved flowers and gardening and was often working in her garden. She also loved to sew, make quilts, and crochet. She taught her children a love of reading and music and the value of an education. She was happiest when she was busy.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her sister-in-law Viola Meier, and two brothers-in-law, Donald Meier and Autry Ellis. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Timothy) Holste of Painesville, Ohio; daughter Sharon (Paul) Philp of St. Louis, Missouri; son Stephen (Meagen) of Porterville, California; son Scott (Rebecca) Meier of Oxnard, California; three grandsons and three granddaughters; two brothers, Mark Mack and Lyle Mack; two sisters, Sandra Henderson and Claudia Ellis; one sister-in-law, Gladys Meier; two nieces, four nephews, and many cousins.
Funeral will be Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, 10341 Road 256, Terra Bella at 2:30 pm, with the Reverend Duane Bamsch and the Reverend Dr. Paul Philp officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following entities: Boys Town; Concordia Guild of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri; Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Lutheran Bible Translators missionaries Jonathan and Carrie Federwitz, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod missionaries Rev. Joel and Clarion Fritsche, or the USO.

Working with Wanda at the Forest Service was a pleasure. She was so sweet, kind and yet she let you know what was on her mind. God comfort her family. Barney

Our prayers are with you Cindy, Sharon, Steven, and Scott, and with your families today. I didn't get a chance to be with your mom on very many occasions but whenever I did I was struck by her kindness and the way she lived out her faith. May God comfort you with the assurance that she is in heaven now with her Savior.
