BESSIE GRACE LUCAS, age 91, of Washington CH, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 12:20 p.m. at her home.
She was born on October 25, 1926 in Ross County to Lee and Rachel Scott Shuster. Bessie had worked as a school cook at the Washington Middle School for 24 years and then later retired from Belle Aire Elementary after another 25 years of service. She was also a very active and long time member at the First Christian Church in Washington CH. She enjoyed collecting tea pots, going to auctions with her daughter, working at the school, and being with her family and friends.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, David Lucas, whom she married on October 11, 1943; and siblings, Scott (Ethel) Shuster, Clara (Kenneth) Caldwell, and Howard "Shorty" Shuster.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Rodger) Mickle, and Andrew "Andy" Lucas; grandchildren, Whitney Pennington, Kelly Chaffins, Kyle (Hope) Mickle, Scott (Wanda) Mickle, Christopher (Sheena) Lucas, and David James Lucas; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Lucas, Madison, Ryan, Haley, Carleigh Beth, Zander, and Ethan; great-great grandchildren; Kali, Graham, Myles, Adelaide, and Layla; and her sister-in-law, Ann Shuster. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of children that she helped feed through the years.
The graveside service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Washington Cemetery with Steve D. Henderson officiating. Friends may visit at the Summers Funeral Home on Friday afternoon from 12-2:00 p.m.
