Cynthia Meriweather Obituary

Cynthia J. "Cyndi" Meriweather, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 surrounded by her family and the love that she gave so freely into others throughout her life.

Cyndi was a majorette and proud graduate of Washington Senior High School, Class of 1970—a place that shaped her and later became the setting for her life's work. After earning her undergraduate degree from Morehead State University and her master's from Miami University, Cyndi returned home to do what she was born to do; teach. Over a career that spanned more than 30 years, she poured her heart into educating "all her kids" across all four elementary schools in the district—Belle-Aire, Rose Avenue, Cherry Hill, and Eastside. Her passion for learning and her fierce love for her students earned her the "Exceptional Teacher Award" from Hopewell, but even more meaningful to her were the hugs, memories, and lessons shared with generations of children in her classroom.

Cyndi's legacy is carried on by her mother, Dorothy Morton; her son Rob and his wife Sara; her daughter Amanda and her partner Kyle Mount; and the "light of her life," her three grandsons—Jaedan (Amanda), and Jackson and Austin (Rob and Sara). Her love for her family was unconditional even until her final moments, and her pride and joy in them knew no bounds.

Those who knew Cyndi knew her as a strong, quiet fighter through her battle with breast cancer. She faced every tough thing in her life with unshakable faith, resilience, and love for those that cared for her, and inspired everyone around her to do the same. Whether gathered in a quiet prayer circle or laughing with friends she had known since childhood, Cyndi radiated strength, grace, and joy.

Her impact is immeasurable, her absence deeply felt by her family, community and former students, and her memory—like the lessons she taught—will live on in the hearts of many.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the Grace Community Church at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Jay Lucas and Pastor Bruce Dickerson officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Cyndi Meriweather Memorial Book and Supply Fund, donation checks can be made payable to Washington Court House City Schools, 306 Highland Ave., Washington CH, OH 43160 or to The Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, The Ohio State University Foundation, University Square North, 14 E. 15th Ave., Columbus, OH 43201, Fund number: 646870
