Rita Joyce (Scott) Faris, age 87, of Washington Court House, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 23, 2025, at St. Catherine's Manor in Washington Court House. She was born the daughter of the late Mack and Mary (Eakins) Scott on December 13, 1937, in Hillsboro, Ohio.
Rita was a graduate of Marshall High School, and she married the love of her life, John Franklin Faris, on November 13, 1955, in Hillsboro, Ohio. Rita was an active member of the South Side Church of Christ, the Fayette County Farm Bureau, and National Board of Realtors. Before retirement, Rita was a Licensed Real Estate Agent with Taylor-White Realty in Washington Court House. Rita enjoyed teaching and working with the children's ministry at South Side and especially during the years of two-week Vacation Bible Schools. She enjoyed Christian/Gospel music, crafts, plants, and gardening. She could save a plant from its withering end which earned her the nickname "Green Thumb."
Over the years she enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's events and driving the Grandma Taxi whenever she was needed. She loved her family, and she will be greatly missed.
Rita is survived by her two children, Dean (Barb) Faris of Washington C.H., and Diane (Dennis) Munro of Washington C.H.; four grandchildren, Derek (Serena) Faris of Washington C.H., Devin (Mychal) Turner of Grove City, Christopher (Whitney) Brown of Yellow Springs, and Alexandra (Michael) Huffman of Alaska; five great grandchildren, Keegan (Faris) Williams, Maxx Huffman, Edisun Huffman, Evelynn Huffman, and Logan Brown; sister-in-law, Ruth Scott of Leesburg and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by the love of her life, John Franklin Faris on April 12, 2024; a granddaughter, Celeste Hope Faris; six siblings, Keith Scott, Kent (Katherine) Scott, Kathleen (Ervin) Griffith, Karlene (Harold) Robison, Ronald Scott, Randell (Donna) Scott, and a brother-in-law, Joseph Faris.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday March 2, 2025, and from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday March 3, 2025, at the South Side Church of Christ, 921 S Fayette St., Washington C.H., Ohio 43160. Funeral services will take place following visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Monday March 3, 2025, at the South Side Church of Christ. Burial will be held in the Hillsboro Cemetery following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rita's name to the LIFE Pregnancy Center, 238 S. Fayette St., Washington Court House, OH 43160.
