Al was born in the Azore Islands to Mary and Joe Pereira on January 16, 1921. He spent most of his life in Stockton.
Al's business career included wholesale food distribution, financial planning and automobile leasing. He also owned Warehouse Golf and Sports Shoe City with his son Mike. He spent the remainder of his career with Mudville Rags.
Al's great passion was sports. He played baseball, basketball and softball in his early years. He officiated football for36 years at several levels. His career culminated with his assignment as head linesman in the 1981 Holiday Bowl. He went on to observe football officiating in the Big West and Western Athletic conferences. He also observed officials at UOP basketball games, seated at a courtside table across from the players' bench.
Al is survived by his sister, Virginia Freed, his son Mike (Gail) and his daughter Linda Ragno (Mark), three grandchildren: Lisa Holmes, Kevin Bookbinder and Katie Dare, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife Lydia, and his wife Alice.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Al's life will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette's Church, 2544 Plymouth Rd., Stockton, CA (entry to the parking lot is behind the 76 station at Country Club Blvd and Interstate 5). There will be no visitation. Committal will be private. DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA in charge of arrangements.

Dearest Linda and famiily,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Your father was a wonderful and kind hearted man who greeted us everyday with his friendly hellos. May happy thoughts fill your heart when you think of him. He will be missed greatly! Go SMH!
