Barney Stevens

Barney Steven, 95 years old, of Stockton passed away peacefully on Sunday June 29, 2008. He was
born on August 22, 1913 to Jesse and Marie (Honey) Stevens in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was the second of nine children.
Barney was preceded in death by his 2 brothers and 6 sisters, his daughter Betty Marie Spearman and two granddaughters, Christine Spearman and Cathy Adams. Barney leaves behind his wonderful wife Leona of almost 78 years. Also his children Beverly Davisson of Stockton, Billie Adams (Richard) of Burson and Bernard Stevens of Manteca. Barney also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
Barney met, courted and married Leona on August 22, 1930. They would have celebrated 78 years. Barney worked in a shipyard during WWII. He was on the original founders of "Show Folk of America", a member of the Elks Club for over 40 years. He was also a member of The Mended Hearts Association of St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight. He was a very devoted member of St. Edward's Catholic Church for many years.
Barney spent the majority of his life in the Outdoor Amusement Business, where many members of his family still carry on his traditions. Barney was a charter member of the "Show Folks of America", A "Showmans League" Life Member, A "Pacific Coast Showmans League" Life member and a "Western Fairs" life member. He was also a charter member of the "Ballon Peddlers Association." Barney will be greatly missed by all of his many family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 731 S. Cardinal Ave., Stockton on Tuesday July 8, 2008 at 1:30 p.m.
