Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Friend passed away peacefully at the age of 72, after a courageous 8 month battle with cancer on February 11, 2018 in Reno, NV. Claus was born in Pfarrkirchen, Germany and made the brave trip to America in 1952 at the age of 7, traveling by himself, speaking no English. He settled in Stockton, CA with his parents.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera & Otto Sommer and his granddaughter, Grace Ann Sommer. He is survived by his wife Cheryl of 32 years; daughter Cathy Cichocki (Dean), Phoenix, AZ; son Ron (Lorena) Sommer, 29 Palms, CA; son James Sommer, 29 Palms, CA; son Claus (Tammy) Sommer, Phoenix, AZ; daughter Kim Johnson, Reno, NV; son Taylor (Rachel) Sommer, Reno, NV; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Claus loved adventures, cooking and traveling with his large extended family and many friends. After retiring he enjoyed spending time at home meticulously tending to his beautiful yard, surrounded by nature and proudly earning his Master Gardener Certificate. Claus will forever be remembered as young at heart with a deep love of family and a passionate love of life. He touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew him and will never be forgotten by his loving family and friends.

Services and a Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, March 3, 2018, 11am, at Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 W. Second Street, Reno, NV with a reception immediately following two blocks east at The Walton's Events Center, 600 W. Second Street, Reno, NV.
