Elda Canevari Obituary

Elda Adele Canevari January 15, 1941 - September 10, 2019 On September 10, 2019, Elda Adele Canevari, loving wife and mother of three, passed away at age 78. Elda was born on January 15, 1941 in Highland Park, Il to Italian immigrants Dino and Delvia Severi. Italian was the primary language until she started school at age 5, so the English that Elda learned in school, became a nightly lesson for her parents. The family moved to California when Elda was 9, upon doctor's orders to escape the cold weather. In the 1950s, Elda's father operated a professional photography studio, which led her to meet the love of her life, David. Even though they lived near each other, Elda and David did not meet until he arrived to pick up his senior portraits. David and Elda wed in 1961 and, as newlyweds, lived in San Francisco. She worked for Bank of America, using her expert shorthand and typing skills. Elda learned to drive on SF's hilly streets, which lead to much family teasing about her own particular style of driving. David and Elda eventually returned to Stockton, to be near family, and to begin a family of their own. She loved her home of 54 years, with its vivid orange flower hallway wallpaper, and the gorgeous sunset views of Mt. Diablo. Using her beautiful penmanship, Elda was a voracious letter writer to friends and family. Those distinctively addressed envelopes carried thoughtful notes, newsy letters, notes to make us laugh, and notes of love and caring. She often would write a note to acknowledge a job well-done to retail clerks, restaurant servers, or even to companies that had a good product. Elda loved stage plays and concerts. Her tastes varied from Willie Nelson to John Denver, so no one was surprised that her last concert was Bruce Springsteen. She adored Santa Cruz and Hawaii beach vacations, often insisting that we all stay on the sand until the last rays of sun faded away. Elda taught her three children to be kind, stand up for what is right, and to show appreciation. A devoted mom, her family's happiness brought her the greatest joy. Elda was a loving wife, proud mom, caring sister, and loyal friend. She was named Godmother and Confirmation Sponsor to many. Elda is survived by her beloved husband David, and children Christina (Jeff), Timothy (Patty), and Brian (Suzanne). She deeply loved her six grandchildren Mark (Meaghan), Matthew, Morgan, Gabriel, Gemma, and Lazzaro. She is also survived by her brother Jimmy Severi, and his sons and their families. The family extends gratitude to the wonderful staff at Plymouth Square Floor Two, for their loving, compassionate, and respectful care. Visitation will be 2:00 5:00 pm September 15, 2019 at DeYoung Memorial Chapel 601 N. California Street Stockton. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am September 16, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church 5882 N. Ashley Lane Stockton. Private interment at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to St. Michael's Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.

Dear Cousins,
The whole Repetto Family sends their condolences. We shared many great get togethers as arranged by Elda and my mom. We would laugh and eat and share stories. Great times! The thoughtful and fun cards and letters she would send were always a treat and made us smile every time we got one. She was an angel. We will keep Elda and the rest of the family in our prayers and know we are only a phone call away if you ever need anything.

Our family sends it's deepest sympathy to the whole family, especially David. Memories of Elda are many and warm and comforting. To me, when I think of Elda, I immediately remember the warm loving and reassuring smile...usually followed by a sweet pat, pat, pat...imparting her fabulous reassurance of LOVE straight from her heart. Her wonderful cards, notes and yes, even a hand made garage door sized Congratulations banner she brought to our daughter's high school graduation party all depicted her selflessness, love and great talent. She was surely really one of a kind, loved and admired by so many and will be greatly missed. Our love to the whole family and God Bless you all...........Bev. and Dan Ahles and family

So sorry to hear of Elda's passing. She was to me the sweetest lady on earth. She never had a bad word to say about anybody. She remembered all and gave all she had. She always sent my boys a dollar every Christmas and they would get all excited. Thank you for your life Elda. You were an angel sent from Heaven to give a little cheer to those around you. Hang in there family. We will be reunited with our loved ones when Christ comes to take us all home. Prayers for comfort to you all. Love, Dena Brown
