Gerald Ryuto Obituary

Passed away at age 69 in Modesto, CA. He is survived by his mother Yoneko (late Masaru) Ryuto and brother Randy Ryuto of Stockton, CA, and sister Janie Mitsuhashi of Carmichael, CA. He also leaves behind his aunt Setsuko Ryuto and uncle Takeshi Ryuto, as well as loving nieces, nephew and cousins and their children.
Gerald attended local schools in Stockton where he was born and grew up. He loved playing football for Edison High School and was very involved in Duke Yoshimura's Judo Club, rising to the Black Belt level.
He attended college at Sacramento, Los Angeles and Fresno State Colleges where he earned his teaching credential. He taught math at Grace Davis and Downey High Schools in Modesto for many years. After retiring from teaching, he spent many hours playing pool in the Modesto 8-Ball Tavern League where he leaves behind many treasured friends.
His other two passions were the Pittsburg Steelers and playing cards, which he was very good at. He was devoted to his 2 young great-nieces and cousins' 5 boys, and spent any opportunity to be with them.
He loved teaching them board games, cards and even crafts, especially decorating Easter Eggs and Christmas cookies. He will be missed so much!
A memorial service will be held for Gerald on Saturday, October 21, 2017, 11 a.m. at the Stockton Buddhist Temple, 2820 Shimizu Dr, Stockton, CA 95203.

Gerald was such a wonderful person and dear friend to me for the past 11 years. I will forever miss him and will always remember the special times we had. Our favorite thing to do was go have sushi and play pool. 11 years ago I didn't know how to even hold a pool stick correctly, but Gerald took the time to teach me everything. Christmas will always be hard for me as I always bought him Steelers stuff. He would always have gifts for my kids and bring the cookies he decorated for them. He was the most thoughtful and kind person I've ever met. It was an absolute pleasure being his friend and I feel so lucky to have known him. May God bless his family and grieving friends through this very difficult time. I look forward to seeing you again my friend in heaven.
Love Always- Tiffany

Gerald and I have been friends for 57 years. Started at John Marshall Jr. High all the way through Edison. He was my best friend in high school, we hung out at each other's homes and we logged a lot of miles in his 56 Chevy. When I went into the Navy, Gerald was one of the few people who I wrote to on a regular basis. When I came home on leave, we always found time to hang out. He was my best man when I married my son's mother, he was my son's godfather. when he had to come into Stockton, we would get together for lunch, talk about times past, medications we were taking and the fact that we were getting old. He was family and I love him dearly. The world will be a lonely place now that this gentle giant is not with us. Love and condolences go out to the Ryuto family. Rest in peace my dear friend, until we meet again.
