Larry Westgate Obituary

Larry Ray Westgate was born December 31, 1941 in Adrian, Michigan. He graduated from Lodi High School, where he was a star basketball player. Larry was a lifelong Michigan Wolverine fan. Go Blue! Larry graduated from University of the Pacific with a degree in Pharmacy, but also enjoyed performing with the musical foursome called The Idols. After college he was a dedicated pharmacist for 42 years.
Larry was a member of Faith Community Church, and loved participating in The Herd, a men's group who focused on Bible study. He also enjoyed boating, camping, and traveling. Larry fought the disease of Parkinson's for five long years, and is finally free from his suffering. He died on December 2, and is now in the presence of his savior, Jesus Christ.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Treva Westgate, as well as his sister Maureen Clemons. He is survived by his loving wife Joann Westgate, and their four children: Jeffrey Westgate (Christina), Jodi Wold (Tony), Gina Bernstein (Gary), and Bryan Wendell (Nora). Larry was proud of all eight of his wonderful grandchildren: Sean, Joshua, Bryson, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Mathew, Alex, and Olyvia. Larry is also survived by his brothers LeRoy, Jim and Steve Westgate, and well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life is scheduled for January 21, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church located at 18621 N. Hwy 99 Frontage Road, Acampo. Please sign the guestbook online at www.cherokeememorial.com

I loved working with Larry at RX Express pharmacy. I was very sad when he retired. We played jokes on each other constantly. Sometimes we got a little carried away. Like the time I held my foot by the bathroom door as he was trying to get out. He kept running at it, trying to get out. He tried one last time, at which time I quickly opened the door. He ran through the pharmacy and crashed into a desk! He laid there laughing and I fell to the floor laughing and holding my side. There were many many more memories just like this. I loved Larry and will love seeing him again.

Larry's ready smile, sense of humor, welcoming nature, and friendly personality made him a wonderful friend and neighbor for my father. He will be greatly missed. We send our thoughts and prayers to JoAnn and his family. May God be your comfort and strength.

Larry had been a long-time backpacking and Bible Study friend whom I had lost contact with until about a year ago when we again reestablished our friendship. Sorry that it ended so soon.
