Chief Marcus P. "Marc" Yates, 78 of Lodi passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008. He was born
November 17, 1929 in Scottsdale, Arizona and grew up in Texas and Southern California. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1950 he made his first home in Lodi where he began his career in law enforcement with the Lodi Police Department as a dispatcher. He worked his way up through the ranks of the Police Department serving as Chief of Police for 14 years. He was the longest serving Chief in Lodi history retiring in 1984 after 34 years with the Force.
Survivors include, son Marc (Linda) Yates of Galt, daughters, Tammy (Larry) Elwood of Valley Springs and Natalie (Mike) Angele of Stockton. Seven grandchildren Amanda & Conor Yates, Becky Liulamaga, Michael Jackson, Jr., Marcus & Christian Angele and his grandson Matthew Yates whom he raised and looked upon like a son, and his great grandson Joshua Liulamaga. His sister Barbara (Wayne) Cooper of Northridge, CA and brother James (Linda) Yates of Cheyenne, WY also survive him. His brothers Bob & Wayne Yates and sisters Maida Proctor and Sandy Stogsdill precede him in death.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flowers at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi. Inurnment will be private. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Society 105 S. Washington St. Lodi, CA 95240.

sorry to hear of marc's passing he was a great man and respected buy all his visions as chief were beyound the times he served the city of lodi with pride and success. he treated everyone with respect and gave everyone the chance they deserved. he is now at rest with our lord and savior watching over all his loved ones till they meet again. may he rest in eternal peace. we will pray for all the family at this time of loss. marc will always be in the thought and hearts of those who had the chance of knowing him. godspeed to one and all!!

Tammy, I am truly sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your dad with us in the last season of his life . He was a joy to watch as the children came to visit and his face lit up while holding them on his lap. What a great Grandfatherly type for the little one's. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
