Stockton, CA
Dr. Robert Gene Bley
May 6, 1929 - November 9, 2008
Dr. Robert Gene Bley died unexpectedly on November 9, 2008. He was born May 6, 1929 to Nell and Fredrick Bley, a local dentist. Bob attended all of his school years in Stockton and played football for the Stockton High School prior to graduating in 1947. He then attended UC Berkeley and followed that up with dental school at California College of Dentistry.
During this period of schooling, Bob met Patricia Carol Richardson, a nursing student at St. Francis Nursing College in San Francisco. They became engaged in July 1953 and followed that up with a whirlwind surprise wedding in Fairbanks, Alaska in July 1954, as Bob had been stationed there after being commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. They honeymooned in Nome, Alaska, where Bob's grandfather had lived for many years as a prospector and where is mother, Nell, had been born.
After settling in Stockton, and joining his father's dental practice, family came along on November 1, 1956 in the form of a son, Robert Kent Bley, called "Casey". He was to be their only child. Casey and his father shared many interests through the years, including the great outdoors, skiing, tennis, and fishing. Bob and a group of his best buddies usually went on an annual fishing trip, often to Alaska.
Bob was an avid member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church, here in Stockton. He was a very spiritual man and went on at least 1 dental mission trip to the Marshall Islands to provide free dental care to those in need. His love for God was apparent.
He is predeceased by his wife, Pat, and his beloved dog, Chuck. He is survived by his son Casey, daughter in-law Shari, Shari's children John and Sara and grand-daughters Sandy and Jackie. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends, including his current sweetheart, Janet Lewis.
Services will be held at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, located at 1020 W. Lincoln Rd. at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2008.

Dad Bley was a wonderful father to me. He loved unconditionally and was one of the most spiritual and kind people I have ever known. I shared many special times with him that will always remain with me and treasure all of these. I will carry on this love in his legacy, through my undying love for his son and granddaughters

For many years we were a "family" in Dr. Bley's and Dr. Hagen's Dental office. We actually thought we had the best bosses in the world, and Monday mornings it was always a pleasure to go to work. Dr. Bley was always so professional and so caring in his practice, and his patients loved and admired him, too. We send our sympathy to Casey and family.

To Casey, Shari and your family,
We are saddened to hear of Doc's passing. I have great memories of all our adventures growing up. Doc was very generous to me, and treated me like one of the family. Carol and I had great times at the Candlelight Lodge. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our heartfelt sympathies to Casey and family. We will deeply miss Bob. He was a true friend and we have many happy memories of working together and our families traveling together. With internet we were able to keep in touch often and we have missed Chuck too. Bob was a gentle caring person and always upbeat to be with. His passing saddens us but his memory is a treasure.

Dr. Bob Bley was one of the many caring Past Presidents of the San Joaquin Dental Society that I worked for. He holds a special place in my heart for his many kindnesses throughout years that I knew him. He was a great contributor to the profession of dentistry. He was very proud of his son and grandchildren and spoke of them often. He will be missed by all who new him, but is now with his wife Pat in heaven.

Very sorry to hear of Dr. Bley's unexpected passing. He was my dentist and family's dentist for many years. He was a very gentle and caring man. I always felt comfort facing a nervous situtation in his chair. He was very professional and most of all a great man. My heart reaches out to all of you in your time of need. May God Bless Robert and his loving family.

"Uncle Bob" was very special to me. I grew up knowing him for he and my Father shared a waiting room for their dental practices. I have many fond memories of him and his wife Pat. He made our trip to England very memorable when he took us up and on our first roundabout! I am very sadden to learn of his death but will cherish the many wonderful memories. Wishing the family and friends much comfort. Love, Michelle Hagen
