Fallon, NV
September 19, 1919 - April 28, 2007
Thomas Mathew Schadeck, age 87, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at a Reno Nevada Hospital from complications of a broken hip, with his son, Michael by his side. He was born September 19, 1919 to Mathew and Eleanor Johnson Schadeck in their home at the Spreckels Sugar Factory Housing in Manteca, CA. Tom lived the majority of his life in Manteca. After the death of his lovely wife of 67 years, Charla, 2 1/2 years ago, Tom moved to Fallon, Nevada to be closer to his daughter, Lana and her husband, Bus Scharmann.
Tom lived a rich life, full of adventure and love. He loved sports and was a basketball player, football player and a track star at Manteca High School. After his graduation
in 1937, he continued to play City League basketball, as well as golfing and bowling. He and his wife, Charla, both won their share of bowling tournaments. Tom was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy as a seabee. He saw the world as he served his country, being stationed in places like Nicaragua and the Galapagos Islands. He was also a member of Free and Accepted Masons in Manteca. Tom worked the majority of his career at the Spreckels Sugar Plant in Manteca. Before that, he worked shortly for Nestl'es and also owned his own gas station for a short time. When Tom joined his father and uncle at Spreckels, he proudly joined a line of Schadeck men who worked there, and invented some of the machinery still
used in sugar production. For over 30 years, Tom walked the factory floors, rising to level of shift supervisor. A few years ago, the City of Manteca honored Tom and his family by naming a street after him.
Tom's parents; brother, Richard, sister, Berniece Jones and beautiful wife, Charla preceded him in death. He was a loving brother to his surviving sister, Marion (Bob) Herzburger of Jamestown, CA; father to son, Michael (Dodie) of San Jose, CA; John of Willits, CA; and Lana (Bus) Scharmann of Fallon, NV. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Susan (Randy) Chase, Sandy (Dave) Graul, Terri (Joel) Fairfield, Dylan Schadeck, Steve (Sheryl) Scharmann, Tad Schadeck, Kelli (Jerame) Teel, Traci (Jake) Lewis, Ronnie Scharmann and his 17 great- grandchildren.
Tom was a kind and honorable man who will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Park View Cemetery Chapel in Manteca with burial to follow at the Cemetery. Viewing will precede services at 1:00 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon. (775) 423-2255.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Schadeck requested that donations by made in the name of his great-grand-daughter, Shaelyn Scharmann, to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 120 Wall Street 19th Floor New York, NY 10005 or www.jdrf.org.

I know that your father is in heaven. He is reunited with your mother forever. My hope for you is that you find peace in your hearts after the sadness lifts. Your parents were wonderful people. Take care and God bless you during this time of great loss. Arlis

Mick, John, Lana and families,
Your dad was such a nice man, and always so nice to me. He always wore a smile . . . and was so proud of his children and grandchildren. I am so sorry.
