Anthony Bivona Obituary

Anthony J. Bivona of Marlboro, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2006, surrounded by his loving family, at Vassar Bros. Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was 88.

The son of the late Joseph Bivona and Rose Pernice, he was born June 19, 1918 in New York, N.Y. He was married to his beloved wife, Ann Vicari for 60 years.

Anthony was a retired N.Y.C. Municipal Worker. He was also a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre.

A family statement reads: "Anthony had a wonderful sense of humor and a zest for life. He loved to travel to many destinations. He was extremely proud of and supportive of his children and grandchildren. He proudly served his nation in World War II in the European Theatre from 1939-1945. He often said 'an old soldier never dies, he just merely fades away.' However, he will never fade from his family's memories and hearts."

Survivors include his wife, Ann Vicari Bivona at home; sons, Joseph J. Bivona, Wallingford, Conn. and Anthony J. and Christine Bivona, Jr. of West Hartford, Conn.; daughter, Joann and Richard Woods of Milton; son-in-law, William French of New Hampshire; brother, Peter and Grace Bivona of Freeport, N.Y.; sister, Ann Delisa; grandchildren: Garrett, Brennan and Jaclyn Woods, Jordan and Christopher French of New Hampshire, Marissa and Jenna Bivona of Connecticut, Trever Bivona of Massachusetts and Tiffany Bivona of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Roseann Bivona French on March 31, 1998.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral services will held at St. Mary's Church, Rt. 9-W, Marlboro on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. Father Edward Bader will officiate. Burial with full military honors will take place Saturday, October 28, in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Church in Marlboro, N.Y.

Arrangements are by Carl J. DiDonato, Jr. and Lawrence M. Cavazza of The DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc., 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro, N.Y.
