Cornelius Glasgow Obituary

Middletown, NY

Cornelius (Neil) J. Glasgow, a longtime resident of Middletown, died Friday, August 14, 2009, at Middletown Park Manor. He was 84 years old.

Neil was born in Brooklyn on June 11, 1925 to the late Cornelius and Clara Essex Glasgow. He married Norine Stewart on June 28, 1947 in Brooklyn.

Neil was a member of the O.C. Human Rights Committee from 1992-1993. He worked for the N.Y.C. Transit Authority Department as a member of Local 333. He moved to the Middletown area in 1969 and served as Police Chief in the Town of Wallkill from 1973-1983. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the change from constabulary system to the police department that exsist today. He was always proud of his marksmanship and was first in his class in FBI firearms.

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Norine, at home; son, George of Middletown; daughter, Norine Machnicki and her husband, Stanley of Goshen; five grandchildren: George, Joseph, Justin Glasgow, Walter and Kaitlyn Machnicki. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert.

There will be no visitation.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 17, at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown, with entombment following in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Neil's name to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc. 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
