Enid A. Decker, a longtime resident of Port Jervis, NY, died Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Brakeley Park Center in Phillipsburg, NJ. She was 86.
She was born November 17, 1934 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Enrique Santiago, Sr. and the late Marina Colón Santiago.
Enid worked for Selective Insurance Company of America in Branchville, NJ.
She was a very active and supportive member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis, NY, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a religious education teacher, a choir member, and was active with the Perpetual Adoration.
Our mother was our rock growing up. Family was the cornerstone of her life, but she placed her faith as the focus of her being. Mom persevered through so many obstacles along her life's path and always knew prayer would help her through her troubles. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her such joy and happiness. She was their "Nonnie" and because of her openness and innate ability to show kindness, she became a "Nonnie" to her grandchildren's friends as well. In addition, she always called each of her children and grandchildren on their birthdays and sang them their special happy birthday song. Creativity was also evident in Mom's hobbies. She was a master quilter and used this talent to make comforters, table runners, Christmas tree skirts, and baby quilts. To have a "Nonnie" quilt creation was a special gift she was happy to bestow upon her loved ones. Her love of color was carried over to her lovely flower garden of annuals and perennials, and especially her rose bushes. Our mother is now home with the Lord. Parkinson's Disease ravaged her life and stole it from her, but she now has the victory because of her faith in Jesus Christ. Mom has her reward with Him.
