Hazel Brown Obituary

Newburgh, NY

Formerly of Beacon, NY

Mother Hazel Brown was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 9, 2008. She was 73.

Hazel was a lifelong Beacon resident and she relocated to San Antonio, TX for three years with her son, Randall and daughters, Yolanda and Diedre. She returned with her son, Harry, Jr. until God called her home.

Mother Brown was born February 17, 1935 in Beacon, NY, to the union of the late Fred Alston, Sr. and Lucy Watkins Alston. In Beacon, she met and married the late Harry L. Brown, Sr. In this union, they were blessed with four lovely children.

Hazel was a lifelong member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Beacon; member of the Deaconess Ministry, Missionary, Gospel and Mass Choirs, Pastor Aide, Birthday Tea and past church clerk. She also was a member of the Martin Luther King Choir and the Les Seours Amiable Civic Club, both of Beacon. Hazel also was a retired Administrative Specialist in the Documentations Dept. at IBM, East Fishkill Facility.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: two sons, The Rev. Harry L. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Della of Newburgh, NY and The Rev. Randall I. Brown and wife, Laury of San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Yolanda L. Brown-Silas and her husband, Johnny, Diedre D. Brown-Sanders and her husband, Devone, all of San Antonio, TX; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Alston and his wife, Faye of Mt. Holly, NJ and David Alston of Aurora, CO; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of loving friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry L. Brown, Sr. in 1997; her mother, Lucy D. Alston; grandmother, Mary Baptist Watkins, and two sisters, Flossie Alston and Edna Andujar.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 139 Main St., Beacon, NY. Services will begin at 12 noon in the church with the Rev. Frederick Mills officiating. Interment will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY.

May the peace of God and His comfort be with you. It is not often that one meets a person that is soft spoken and has an easy going demeanor. She will be missed. Memories of her encouragement and faithfulness will leave a great impression upon all who knew and loved her.
