Highland, NY

Deacon Joseph J. Palladino, Jr., age 83, of Highland, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Wingate at Ulster, Highland, NY. We are forever blessed for sharing in his life and he will be greatly missed.

He was born on November 5, 1926 in New York City, NY. He was the son of the late Joseph and the late Jennie (DeTora) Palladino, Sr. He married Marie Stoffo on November 19, 1949 at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, Brooklyn, NY. He moved to Highland (town of Lloyd) in 1958 from Brooklyn.

He served in the U.S. Navy between 1944 and 1946 as an Electrician 3rd class serving, amounts many duties, on the USS Trenton in the at the end of World War II. He went on to serve with the U.S. Naval reserves from 1946 to 1950. He was ordained in 1992 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City, by Cardinal John Joseph O'Connor. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, New Paltz, where he served the parish as an ordained Deacon. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #5800 serving as the spiritual advisor, the Mid-Hudson Senior Citizen's, volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for over 25 years. Deacon Joe served in Guam with the Capuchin Fathers doing missionary work. He was an avid reader.

In 1962 he founded, owned and operated Lloyd Electrician, Highland, NY until his retirement in 1982.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Stoffo) Palladino, at home; one daughter, JoAnne and her husband, Coly Vulpiani of Denver, CO; two sons, Joseph C. III and wife, Mary Palladino of Highland and Kenneth and his wife, Sheileen Palladino of Accord; one sister, Margaret Vulpiani of Clintondale; grandsons, Joseph Palladino IV of Billerica, MA; R. Matthew and wife, Nicole Palladino of Beacon, Timothy Palladino and Fiancee Melissa Ledbetter of New Paltz, Kenneth and Daniel Palladino of Accord; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, at Copeland Funeral Home Inc., 162 S. Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY 12561. The body will lay in state on Wednesday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 34 S. Chestnut St., New Paltz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 8, at 12 noon at the church. Cremation will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Burial of ashes will follow on November 5, at 1 p.m. at the Lloyd Cemetery, Highland.

Dear Marie and Family,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow.
