Michael Orsini Obituary
Michael John Orsini of Beacon, NY, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 14, 2008. He was 96.
The son of the late Antonio Ricardo and Palma Rulli Orsini, he was born October 25, 1911 in Newburgh, NY. On October 27, 1935, he married Lucy Rose Iannone in St. John's Church in Beacon, NY. Mrs. Orsini predeceased him on October 5, 2007.
Mr. Orsini was the former owner of Mi-Ro's Restaurant in Beacon, where he always enjoyed cooking for his friends and family. Mike purchased Mi-Ro's in October of 1944 and it was a very successful establishment for over 30 years. Under Mike's ownership, Mi-Ro's sponsored numerous sports teams, especially baseball.
He was a charter member of St. Francis of Assisi Sons of Italy; life member of Beacon Engine, and former member of Southern Dutchess Country Club. He was a member of St. Joachim - St. John's Church in Beacon. Mike was a talented baseball player from an early age. He played on several local teams in the 20's and 30's and managed the Newburgh Recs in 1938, 39 and 40. He was inducted into the Dutchess County Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame in November 1963. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan.
Survivors include his son, Michael "Mickey" Anthony Orsini of New York, NY; daughter, Nina and her husband, James Cahill of Beacon; two sisters, Sue Butwell and Mary Calaluca; three grandchildren: Eric, Michele, James and his wife, Annie; three great-grandchildren: Tina, Joey and Sophie Cahill; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Christine Hoyt and his sisters: Elda Gozza, Fannie Corrado, Evelyn Martin, Julia Clarino and Elizabeth Lease.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Libby Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Teller Ave., Beacon, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joachim's Catholic Church, Leonard St., Beacon, NY, with Father David Nolan officiating. Burial will be in St. Joachim's Cemetery, Beacon, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elant @ Fishkill, 22 Robert R. Kasin Way, Beacon, NY 12508 or St. Joachim-St. John Church, 2 Oak St., Beacon, NY 12508.
