Richard Guevrekian Obituary

Callicoon, NY

Mr. Richard John Guevrekian of Callicoon Center, NY died Sunday August 24, 2008 in his home. He was 52.

He was born August 10, 1956 in Queens, the son of Jack Guevrekian, now deceased, and Irma Guevrekian.

Surviving are his daughter, Samantha Guevrekian, and his sister, Nadine Tinger.

After 20 years in medical equipment sales, Richard left a lucrative career in order to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. He taught high school mathematics most recently at Livingston Manor Central School District. His students remarked on his ability to show you a concept "ten different ways" until you understood it.

Richard also served as a Scout Master for the town's local Boy Scout troop. He was a loving father and dedicated teacher. He was a faithful and loyal friend. He faced many obstacles in his life with courage and unfailing kindness, thus leaving the world a better place.

The wake will be held at Frederick's Funeral Home in Flushing, NY, on Thursday, August 28, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. 718-357-6100.

The Funeral will take place on Friday, August 29, 10 a.m. at Holy Martyrs Armenian Church in Bayside, NY.

Just read about Rich in the Alumni Crier. We didn't hang with the same crowd in high school but we had a lot of classes together, and I always remember him laughing and polite. He had a booming laugh. My condolences to his family.

Mr. G was one of the few teachers in the world to leave a positive, lasting impact on a student. As a student at Livingston Manor Central School, and as someone who had the pleasure of meeting Mr. G, I will greatly miss him.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Rich for a short time. He was a man of great character and had a mission to teach the youth of Livingston Manor the ideals of Scouting. Rich will be greatly missed by the Scouting community and beyond.
May he Rest in Peace.
