Richard Truex Obituary

Middletown, NY

Richard M. Truex, 63, of Middletown, NY died on Sunday, December 7, 2008, the guiding light for the Truex family was extinguished. Dick was taken from us after a brief, but fierce battle with Agent Orange related lung cancer.

Born March 5, 1945, Richard M. Truex was the son of the late G. Richard Truex and Ethel Gates Truex. Master Plumber #32, owner operator of G. Richard Truex Plumbing and Heating and a gifted dowser. Dick had an endearing loyalty and did to his many customers. A lifetime member of Eagle Engine Company #2, a past Captain and President; Dick served his community for over 40 years as a volunteer fireman. He was also appointed Duty Chief for 19 years and was known as DC#1. A Middletown High School graduate Dick served in the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards including the combat infantry badge. He would reminisce his tour of duty from time to time fondly recalling his war buddies, who were his true heroes. A man with a quick wit and wry humor, he was always ready to pull a prank on some unsuspecting person. He took great pride in his antics and his friends and family kept coming back for more. Dick was also a budding cartoonist. He will always be remembered for his honesty, integrity and devotion.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Daniel and his wife, Eileen; Richard M. Truex, Jr, William and his wife, Melissa; step-son, Michael Biasi and his wife, Tracy; his mother, Ethel; sister, Pat Houston and her husband, Darrel; brother, Thomas Truex and his wife, Barbara; grandchildren: Daniel, Alyssa, Rorey, Kiera, Mikey, Billy, Megan and Anthony; loving aunts, uncles cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, baby sister, Jacqueline; his loyal pets and companions, Wacky Mac, Rufus and Puppy Scruffy.
