Vincent Van Vliet Obituary

Middletown, NY

Vincent I. Van Vliet, 63, of Middletown, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at home.

Vincent was born December 4, 1946 in Manhattan, NY, the son of Vincent A. Van Vliet and Dorothy Neeson Van Vliet.

Vincent served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a sergeant in the Army Reserves for 15 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Manhattan. Vincent was a bus operator for MABSTOA and member of the Transit Workers Union, Manhattan.

He is survived by his son, David Van Vliet of Tuxedo Park; two daughters, Andrea Van Vliet of Middletown and Martha Van Vliet of Wellington, FL. He was predeceased by his parents and ex-wife, Claire M. Kuhne.

"Our father lived his life with pride, honor, respect, and love for his family, his country, and his friends. He was a kind man; he always had a smile on his face and tried to make all those around him happy. He was always the first one to lend a helping hand and make everyone feel like a friend. We know he is now home in Heaven smiling down upon us. He will be loved and greatly missed by all those who knew him."

Visitation will be Thursday, May 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 South Church St., Goshen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 14, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen. Burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Craigville Rd., Goshen.
