William F. Schnabel
William F. Schnabel passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old. The son of the late Alfred and Genevive Schnabel, he was born on October 10, 1940 in the Bronx, NY.
William proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following the Marines, he joined the N.Y.P.D. as a police officer in the 52nd precinct, Bronx, NY. He retired in 1986. William was also a retired Federal Police officer with the United States Mint, West Point, NY.
William is survived by his wife, Carmela, of 56 years; his son, Richard; his daughter, Lizabeth Rizzo; his son-in-law, Anthony Rizzo; his son, Robert and his wife, Caryn. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather, Anthony, Christopher, Vincent, and Carly.
William was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws, and his brother, Neil.
William was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. The most important thing to William was his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a man of honor and integrity. William will be missed by all that know him.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30th, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home located on 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. A service will be held the following day at the funeral home, on Thursday, at 10 a.m. followed by a burial at Bloomingburg Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties Inc.
