Barbara Lou MacLean
1935 - 2013
Barbara MacLean passed away of lung cancer on Wednesday, August 14, 2013.
A celebration of her life will be held at Redding Christian Fellowship at 2157 Victor Avenue in Redding, California on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 12:00 noon, followed by a graveside service at Lawncrest Memorial Park.
Reception following both services will take place at LuLu's Restaurant on the corner of Cypress and Pine Streets.
Barbara was born in Winfield, Kansas as Barbara Lou Cook on January 13, 1935. She graduated high school in Reseda, California in 1961. She married David James MacLean in Tarzana, California on August 29, 1954 and remained married until his death in January of 1984.
Together, Barbara and David enjoyed water skiing on Lake Shasta and square-dancing with the Wonderland Twirlers in Central Valley. While raising her three children, Barbara returned to Shasta College to study administrative skills, serving as the Administrative Assistant for Jack Schreder at Nova High School for years before moving to the Shasta County Office of Education. While in the service of the County Schools Office, Barbara worked closely with several County Superintendents and the Board of Education for Redding. During her 18 year tenure with the County, she was named the Classified Employee of the Year.
Barbara also proudly served as a member of the Shasta County Grand Jury-receiving the Community Service Award for "outstanding public service as a member of the 1988-1989 Grand Jury". She served on the George Grotefend Scholarship Board, as well.
She is survived by her three children, David James MacLean, Dennis MacLean and Debbie Rider and her daughters-in-law Lynn and Erin, as well as her son-in-law Michael James Rider. Grandchildren include: Semone Maria Bassett, Corey Mark MacLean, Nicholas Daniel MacLean, Camden MacLean Rider, Cooper Kincaid Rider and Emersen Elizabeth Rider. She is also survived by her brother, William Rex Potter and sister, Dolores "Dee" Laceby and other loving relatives, including her brother-in-law Robert Clayton MacLean, sister-in-law Janice MacLean and several nieces and nephews.

She was a loving mother who completely enjoyed raising her children with the love of her life, my father--David MacLean. She was constantly laughing, singing, cooking and reading. She is desperately missed--there is no better listener than her in this world! Love you Mom!

So saddened to hear of cousin Barbara passing. Especially to just find out now. Have many fond childhood memories of visiting her and her family. Just know Aunt Jerry and Lenora are thinking David Dennis and Debbie. We love you!

I DO SO REMEMBER BARBARA. I WORKED AT THE SHASTA COUNTY SCHOOLS OFFICE UNTIL 1981 AND SHE WAS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE EPITOME OF A LADY. ANY TIME I NEEDED TO TALK WITH JACK OR DEAN SHE ALWAYS MADE IT A POINT TO GET ME IN RIGHT AWAY.
