Craig Ackerman Obituary

Craig Ackerman

Redding, CA

Craig Ackerman passed away in his home on Sunday October 14th with his wife and children at his side.

Craig was born to Roger Ackerman and Phyllis Bishop in Weaverville, Ca on October 23rd, 1961. His grandfather, Louis Ackerman was project engineer on the Trinity Whiskeytown project for the Bureau of Reclamation. He had 2 brothers and one sister. His sister preceded him in 2005, and his mother in 2017.

He graduated from Anderson High school in 1980. Although he lost his arm in a scuba accident at Whiskeytown Lake when he was 22, he went on to become a Registered Nurse. He married his classmate, Serena and together they graduated from Chico State in 1988. They moved to Redding and raised three children. Craig worked as a psychiatric nurse for Redding Specialty and Shasta County mental health. He and his wife moved to Mount Shasta in 2016.

He never let one arm slow him down in his job or in his play. He was a huge Giants fan, an accomplished martial artist, cyclist, snowboarder, hiker/mountain climber, movie buff, and driver. He and his brother spent many hours completely rebuilding his 240Z, making it ready to drive and auto cross race.

Craig is survived by his wife Serena, his daughter Brittany Krause of Talent, Oregon, daughter Monica Ackerman of Weed, and son Luke Ackerman of the United States Naval Academy, Grandson Maverick Buchan of Weed, Father Roger Ackerman and Step Mother Lorena Ackerman of Redding, brother Brent Bishop of Anderson, brother Todd Bishop of Redding, as well as many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends.

Craig fought a hard battle against Multiple Myeloma for three years, and it took him much too soon for his active life.

Memorial service will be the Friday after Thanksgiving. Contact a family member or Serena via Facebook for time and location.

You have my deepest sympathy on your immeasurable loss. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14. May the God of loyal love comfort you during your time of sorrow.

I remember fondly the time I spent practicing karate with Craig as we worked to earn our black belts in the 1980s. Great sense of humor, amazing work ethic, and a very infectious smile. Rest in peace, buddy.

I went to high school with Craig and spent a lot of time with him in the gym working out together at Kangaroo Kourts during the mid 80's. He was such an inspiration to me. Rest in peace, Craig.

I worked with Craig for many years at RMC and Specialty Hospital. He was so good with his patients and always brought fun humor to the team. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. RIP Craig.
