Dennis Clifford Hovet

1917-2010
Dennis Clifford Hovet, 93 year old longtime resident of Igo, CA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 18, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center. in Redding, CA.
Dennis was born on September 6, 1917 in Antelope, Montana to Gunder and Marie Hovet. The oldest of five siblings, he grew up in Antelope attending elementary school and graduating Antelope High School.
Dennis joined the Conservation Corp. before joining the United States Army in 1941. Three days prior to being shipped overseas, on his birthday September 6, 1942 he married Nadine Rhodes. He served in the military during WWII from 1941 until 1945. He spent time in Africa and Europe as part of the unit that took the beach at Anzio. He won an American Defense Service Medal a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
Returning to his wife and home in the Redding area after the war he began working in local sawmills. He was employed with Ralph L. Smith Lumber Co. until going to work for Kimberly Clark Corp. in Wildwood, CA as a head mill-wright. In the late 1960's Roseburg Lumber Co. took over and he moved to Igo and worked at the Roseburg Lumber Co Mill in Anderson, CA until his retirement.
Dennis helped build the Ono-Igo Comm. Church and was named a Deacon Emeritus (deacon for life). He was a member of the Gideons International and belonged to the Igo-Ono Volunteer Fire Dept.
Dennis is survived by his children, Judy Durham of Flagstaff, AZ. Mike Hovet and his wife, Evelyn of Santa Clara, CA, and Christina Neilson and her husband, Richard of Redding, CA; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In 1993 Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine on the date of their fifty first wedding anniversary and his seventy sixth birthday. He is also preceded in death by his son, Dennis Lee in 1983; and three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held on November 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Ono-Igo Community Church, 6287 Placer Rd. in Igo with burial to follow at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ono-Igo Community Church, 6287 Placer Rd., Igo, CA 96047.
