Douglas Michael Rathbun

Redding, CA

Douglas Michael Rathbun 65, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at his home in Redding, CA. Doug was a life long residence and a pioneer family of Shasta County.

Doug was born May 29, 1953 in Redding, CA to Betty Smith (Rathbun) and Thomas Rathbun.

Doug is survived by his son Jason, Jason's wife Mandi, and grandson Cameron. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Smith and brothers Chris, and Greg many nephews, nieces and many family members and good friends. He graduated from Enterprise High School in 1972. Doug was a member of the Shasta County Historical Society and a past member of the Kiwanis Club.

He enjoyed taking his mother to the store and to dinner and going to Corning at the Rolling Hills Casino. He liked to read and had favorite TV programs he enjoyed such as, football and Mash. He also liked to go to the motorcycle club dinners that were his mother's friends where he made new friends.

Doug's first job was as a DJ at KRDG Radio Station. Doug also worked at the Cascade Theater and Redding Printing Company before retiring.

He will be surely missed by everyone.

Services will be held Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel, 2655 Eureka Way, Redding, CA for family and friends.

Memories of Redding's Past

Doug would interview a few "Rockers" when they were in town to promote their concert and latest record. The segment was usually scheduled for a hour, but they would turn into a four hour marathon, Sammy Hagar and Davy Jones come to mind. Big stuff for little Redding, back then. Thanks Doug.

I was shocked to read that Doug was gone. We were friends in high school, and I enjoyed visiting with him at our reunions. My condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear of Doug's unexpected passing, I saw him at Raley's shopping with his Mom the week before Christmas. We've known Doug since he worked at KRDG where he was lovingly called Sluggo. Rest In Peace Doug.

I was so sorry to hear of Doug's passing. We graduated from EHS in 1972 and I will always remember Doug with smile - he was so outgoing and generous with his time. He will surely be missed by many.

I was so surprised to read of Doug's passing. I met him back when he worked for KRDG and then he called on our County department when he worked for Redding printing. My sincere sympathies to Greg and Doug's entire family.

I was sad to see that Doug had passed away. I met Doug way back in the day when we played Little League baseball together. We graduated from EHS together and whenever I would run into Doug, he knew what all of our classmates were up to! He always did a great job of planning our reunions. Because of a recent knee replacement, I will be unable to attend the service. I'll drink a beer at 11am on Friday and remember. He will be missed.
