Gary Toms Obituary
Rialto, CA
Gary Ernest Toms died on July 27, 2018 at his residence in Rialto, California. Gary was born in Red Bluff, CA to Ernest and Betty Toms on July 7, 1954. He was raised in Cottonwood, CA where he attended Elementary school and graduated from Anderson High School in 1972. He then went two years to Shasta College, transferred to Chico State and graduated in 1977 double majoring in music and history. Gary was a high school teacher and music director in the San Bernardino School District for 30 years.
Gary is preceded in death by his mother Betty. He is survived by father, Ernest (Geneva), two sons, Alex (Evelia), US Army stationed in Korea and Sean of Rialto, sister Ronda Gonzalez (Jim) of Hayfork and two nephews, Nicholas and Ryan.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, at 11:00 am September 22nd at the Cottonwood District Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Betty Toms Memorial Scholarship, Anderson Union High School: 1471 Ferry St. Anderson, CA 96007

Gary was one of the most loyal and devoted friends anyone could hope to have. He and I were colleagues at Yucaipa High School from around 1987, when he first came to the school, until he moved to the San Bernardino High School Band program in 2000. He ran the band program and I ran the Drama Department. We collaborated on many musicals together.I will always treasure the time that I spent with Gary. He loved music and students, and was a great father to two very lucky boys. I will miss him.

So sorry to hear..
We enjoyed talking about bands and music when he'd stop by..
He got me a A in PE in high school by convincing me to a baseball team score keeper!
Will miss him..

To Gary's family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. I was just made aware of it, as a classmate from Anderson posted it on our Class of 72 FB page. I'm so very sorry. I remember Gary (as does everyone!) as very nice, rather quiet and just an all around good guy. May he rest in peace.
