Just found out that Harry passed on to that Road Race in the sky. We go back to when SWEAT was formed in the early 70´s and our Club (Southern Oregon Runners) were fledglings. Runners had to travel great distances to find a race and all of us became close friends. Harry was such a fine person. His daughter Jennifer was involved in running too. Our condolences to his entire family. He was an institution. Our good fortune to have known him.

He was a wonderful man, and I know how close he was to his family. My sincerest condolences, and prayers. I believe the earth is a better place, for him to have been here...

I am so grateful to have known Dr. Harry as my family called him. He brought such joy to my Aunt Joann’s life, and extended kindness and warmth to all of us. He was a kind, calm presence in an often turbulent world. God bless him and keep him.

He was my sister's doctor--such a wonderful caring person. My sis had Alzheimer's , yet, when I took her in for a some medical issue, he would talk to her and ask her how she was and why she was there. --not to me. He treated her as if she was cognizant--like a healthy person. It made so happy to observe this interaction; for to me, my sis was still "there". Loved the man!, My sister's name--Ruth Hernandez.

There are so many wonderful memories and stories of Harry that span the 40 years or so that I knew him.
I came over from England to OSU where I met and became fast friends with Suzanne, Harry's eldest daughter. She invited me to spend my first Christmas with her family and they were so warm and welcoming that I immediately felt at home.
Our families had many similarities and, with a variety of common interests, we have continued our friendship to this day.
I always admired Harry's "no frills" approach to life. He was a very ethical man and most important seemed to be the values of loving, caring and respect for one another.
It was the Daniell's who nurtured, in me, a growing affection for running and it was something we all shared with great enthusiasm over the years. Harry was not only inspirational but his enthusiasm was infectious. He was also extremely supportive and we always laugh over the story of when he told me to "put my money where my mouth is" when I continued to talk about entering the Western States 100 - it was exactly the kind of support I needed!
Harry's enthusiasm extended beyond his passions for running and medical research into a multitude of areas that included geology, nature, fishing, hiking, skiing, snow shoeing and reading to name but a few. In fact there were a wide variety of topics one could bring into a conversation and he would generally know something about it - or, even if he didn't he would joke that he could still make up a convincing story about it! I must have fallen for many of those stories over the years probably because they were always fascinating!
I will miss Harry tremendously and I'm so grateful to have known and enjoyed him for so many years.

In addition to being a wonderful physician Harry was a really good runner! Being the same age, my husband, Mel, competed with him many times over the years. Sad to say (for Mel), Harry always edged him out at the finish line. So many great memories! We have been privileged to have known him and his family!

As a teacher and coach at Enterprise High School I had the distinct privilege of having Jennifer Daniell as a runner on both my cross country and track teams. Because of that I was always greeted and treated as a very special person in the lives of Harry and his wonderful wife, Bobbie. They not only attended all of Jennifer's meets but helped with the timing and organization of our meets as well. They treated "all" athletes with the respect, diligence and concern that young people deserve and were highly respected and loved in return...especially since they "always" brought oranges for everyone to enjoy after the race.
Harry was a class act and always on duty as a doctor when someone needed attention for an injury. His presence and enthusiasm for competition and our young people was quite contagious and I know that he is remembered as a man with a caring and giving soul that always made a difference for everyone in our community. Thank you Harry and Bobbie...may you enjoy the running trails in heaven together.

It is with great sadness that I read of the death of Dr. Daniell. He was our family physician beginning (apparently) shortly after his arrival in Redding and remained my mother's family doctor until his retirement from private practice in (I think) 2015, when my mom was 91. He and Bobbie were also occasional social friends of my mom as well, in their younger years and she had so much respect and admiration of him.
I was in the Army for 20 years but upon my return to Redding he also became my family's physician and I was so impressed with his approach to treating my wife, my mom (I became her caregiver later in her life) and myself. He was thorough in his diagnosis, creative in determining the best use of medications, and his lifetime of experience and vast knowledge of illness and disease were of great benefit to all of us. I don't think Redding will ever see a comparable physician again, one who would call you himself with lab results or to answer a question without the need to come to the office!
I worked near Dr. Daniell's running route and would see him running up north Bonnyview. After my own retirement I would not see him as often, but I could tell over the years that as he ran up the hill it was getting more difficult, but he just kept doing it, just as he kept working as long as he could. He was indeed a most special man.
Early in my wife's medical relationship with Dr. Daniell he asked if she would clean his house (she had a housecleaning business). She was somewhat reluctant because she didn't want to impact their medical relationship if he wasn't pleased with her housecleaning efforts, but all went well and she was able to see how much he loved his wife and how attentive he was.
My wife told me of Dr. Daniell coming home and having lunch with his wife outside, watching the river and just enjoying each other's company. I would like to think they are now watching the river together again.
