Henry Fuhrman Obituary

Henry Alexander "Hank" Fuhrman

November 10, 1924 - March 17, 2011

Dad passed away at his home in Anderson following a brief illness.

He was born at home in Baylor, Montana, the 4th of 12 children born to Frederick and Dorothea Fuhrmann. Dad's early years were spent doing chores on his family's farm and attending the North Fuhrmann School with his siblings and cousins. Grandpa lost the farm during the depression, but dad never lost the "farm boy" in him: he was always happiest when puttering in a garden or taking care of animals.

In the early '40's the family moved to California to work on the Shasta Dam. Then came WWII, and dad lied about his age to join the Navy at 17. His next 10 years were spent touring the Pacific Theater and honing the stories (some of them true) that kept his kids and grandkids entertained for the rest of his life.

After he left the Navy, dad briefly returned to Montana, where he did ranch work. But he decided the "big" money was in construction, and he returned to California to work on the Trinity Dam. There, he met and married our mom, Letha Marian Cranfield, in 1957. For the next 30 years, dad "and another guy" (usually our Uncle Jerry) built dams across California and the Pacific Northwest.
Along the way, 3 daughters were born.

Dad finally retired in 1985, and after traveling for a while, he and mom moved to Utah. They stayed for 4 years, until they couldn't stand being away from the grandkids any longer. They finally settled in Anderson.

Dad was always a "half full" kind of guy and his kids and grandkids were his biggest joy. Until he began having health problems he attended every little league game, every dance recital.

Dad was greeted by his parents, his brothers Donald, Gary and Roy, sisters Judith Rogers, Agnes Haines, and Vesta Moodie, and son-in-law Richard Carter.

He leaves behind his brothers Cletus, Robert and Jerome, sisters LaFern Reed and Betty Watson, his wife of 52 years Letha, daughters Brenda (Mathew) Sinclair, Teri Courtney, and Rebecca Carter, grandchildren Steven (Lara) Sinclair, Joshua Sinclair, Cole (Becca) Courtney, Anthony Courtney, Zachary (Crystal) Carter, Ashley (Ben) Arnold, Luke Matthews, Alexander Carter, and Carly Sinclair. Great grandchildren Natalie Wessman, Landon Sinclair, Adeline Sinclair, and Cameren Courtney. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.

Services will be held at a later date.

Grandpa Hank, I never got to truly say goodbye. Things came and went, but my memory of you lives on. You reminded me so much of my dear, sweet grampie, whom I lost far too soon at six years old. When you came into my life when I was sixteen, you helped make up for lost time with my grandfather. Yesterday was Easter, and I tried to do your creamed eggs justice, just as I try every year. Your hearty laugh with squinted eyes, your play fights, and your love for your family, and cat- Target, are memories I gladly keep.

Gramps, you have been the definition of awesome Grandpa! I love the picture of us where I'm on your shoulders, hugging your head. I will miss you big time. You are the greatest grandpa ever and I know all of heaven is being filled with your mischievous chuckle! It brings a big smile to my face... Love you Grandpa!

Daddy-o,

I love you so much and I miss you so much! Every day was a beautiful day and you really enjoyed our little "talks!" Youdidn't know why but that damn condo in St. Marie was always on your mind- so, hopefully you've paid it a visit. Maybe you've been able to pay avisit to all the places and all the people that were ever on your mind. You were a pain in the booty (but so was I) but everyone loves you and misses you terribly. Mom really misses youwhich probably makes you very happy. I know you can see us, hear us, etc. So you know exactly how we all feel. I know you weren't ready to throw in the towel, you are very stubborn, but i bet now you're having the time of your life! Save me a chair next to yours, daddy-o!!!

I love you and I miss you. I see you everywhere. I wake up in the middle of the night and I expect you to be there. And Target misses you too.

Our visits with Hank and Letha when they lived in Auburn were always fun and involved lots of coffee drinking, lots of laughter, lots of conversation, and lots of card playing. Our history actually goes way back to when home was in Weimar. We will always remember having to rescue Hank and Letha when their car broke down late at night in then "faraway Lincoln". And whenever we had a serious decision to make we always thought, "What would Hank do?" ... and then did just the opposite!
Thinking fondly of you, Hank, and enjoying those good memories. You and Bob are probably up there sharing old Navy stories right now. God bless you!
Love,
Beth Murphy

My Uncle Hank was near us from my birth until I was 14 and he began his own family. He was a playmate when I was little, and never became angry when we did silly, little girl stuff. He was the hero in all of our stories. He always made me feel safe, and it was a great joy to make him laugh. During those terrible years between 11 and 14, he listened sincerely to broken heart stories, and all the drama pre-teen/teen girls can create, and then would make "possible suggestions" on how one might handle that.

He was my best friend, my adviser, my safe port in a storm, and I loved him unconditionally. But most of all, he always made me feel like an important individual person deserving respect, worthy of love, and a precious addition to this earth. And he did all this in his quiet, sometimes gentle, but always humorous way. He made me feel important.

You live, larger than life, in my heart, Uncle Hank, and will not ever be gone, just traveling in another place. What a joy it will be when we are all together again.

I love you.

Uncle Hank was my hero. He lived near during my teenage years and was my transportation, my help in time of trouble and my friend. He even lent me his razer for my legs when Mom didn't let me have one. I love and treasure every memory. We'll miss you.

I have to say, that hank was a great husband and father. I always wished he was my dad. I loved him so much. He used to make me laugh all the time. I never heard him raise his voice or complain. He was so gentle. I wanted to see him one more time. I will see him in heaven. I love you Hank

Hank was an outstanding man for whom I always had nothing but the highest respect. I never knew him to feel sorry for himself, shirk a responsibility or put anything above his family. Being around him always made me laugh and reminded me life can be fun. We love you, Hank, and will sadly miss you until we are all together again.

I was greatly saddened when I read of Hank's passing. I enjoyed the many visits we had when he came to buy his morning paper at Vaughn's Market. God bless his family.

What do you say about the first and most worthy man that you ever loved? My father was a Prince among men, the best father in the world, the hardest worker I have ever known and my mentor who taught me how to "get up & move" when I wanted to give up. My pops laughed hard, enjoyed the small moments & loved and took care of his family with a passion. He never, ever let me down. The most honest man I have ever known, who believed a hand shake meant something and his word meant everything. My dad & mom taught me to be honorable & ethical and that legacy lives on through their children & grandchildren. My heart is broken right now dad, but just as you taught me, I will get up & keep going... I am my fathers daughter. I love you now & for eternity. Save a place for me daddy...when you can waltz me on your feet in heaven. All my love, Sissy Poo
