James "Jim" Conwill Obituary

James "Jim" Aaron Conwill

1943 - 2014

James "Jim" Aaron Conwill, 71, passed away peacefully Friday, November 7, 2014, at his home in Redding, CA. He was born to the late Dorothy and James Morgan Conwill on January 8, 1943, in Dunsmuir, CA, where he was raised and graduated from Dunsmuir High School in 1960.

He married Linda Mae Austin in 1961 and resided in Dunsmuir before moving to Chico in 1968, where they raised their 3 daughters.

He relocated back to the Dunsmuir area after helping care for Linda until she passed away from ALS in 1995. The time spent at Soda Creek created wonderful memories for many family and friends before settling in Redding where he lived with his sweet dog, Tessa.

He retired from Union Pacific Railroad as an Engineer in 2001 but wore several hats during his lifetime. In addition to being a railroad Engineer, he was also a dispatcher for the railroad. He sold insurance for Business Men's Assurance in his early days and became a District Manager for the company. He entertained becoming a veterinarian which was proof of his love for animals, farmed rice, and took every opportunity to be on a ranch that he could. He loved to go out on cattle drives, hunt, fish, woodworking, spending time with his friends and family, watching movies, and discovered recently that he loved to go on cruises. He was able to travel to Alaska and Mexico where he especially loved the open sea air, talking to people, the buffets, and the room service.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Linda, his daughter Barbara, and his brother Dan Wizner.

He is survived by his sister Becky Huckaba (Joe), his daughters Kimberly (Kim) Ondracek (Dick) and Stacy Ancheta (Ben), his granddaughters Rachel Ondracek, Hannah Dunagan (Collin), Megan Ancheta and Annie Ondracek, great-granddaughter Adelaide, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Tessa.

He was laid to rest at Mt Shasta Memorial Park on Friday, November 14, 2014.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Piemont Restaurant in Mt Shasta at 5pm on Friday, November 21st, 2014. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his honor to the Humane Society or ALS research.

I met Jim through my mother, Rebecca Czarniak, who delivered his mail. Jim from the very beginning was always very kind towards me and I spent a lot of time doing yard work and personal chores around his house. He also attended certain events I was participating in to support me and I have always felt that Jim was like a grandfather to me. Always sweet, always generous, always willing to tell me about past experiences in his life and the lessons he learned from them. I am proud to have known such a great man like James Conwill and it truly hurts my heart to know he has passed on. I will always miss him.

I met Jim several years ago delivering his mail. I have known many of my patrons well throughout the years, but none have had the impact on me that Jim had. I truly have a hole in my heart and will miss this very kind man terribly. He was a true friend and I will cherish the many great memories I have of him. I will most definitely miss his sense of humor and always appreciate how he shared his knowledge and wisdom with my son.
