John Doig Obituary
Cottonwood, CA
John Maclaren Doig II, a resident of Cottonwood, CA, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the age of 70 at the home he built in Lake California.
He was preceded in death by his father John Maclaren Doig I, mother Jayne M. Doig, and sister Jerri Lynn Doig. He is survived by his brother Jeffrey L. Doig and wife Kathy of Michigan; five nieces and nephews, 6 grand nieces and nephews; and his love Susan Hacking, of Redding.
John was an aircraft mechanic, pilot and sailor as well as a designer and builder of airplanes and boats. His skills and services were required all over the world. At the time of his death he was still working at Turtle Bay Exploration Park as their Senior Exhibit Technician.
John has been described by some as "a real life Indiana Jones". He had a wanderlust that pushed him to sail, fly and live around the world. More recently John and Susan, both dreamers, had begun traveling close to home. More adventures here and abroad were planned.
A celebration of John's amazing life will be held Saturday April 9, 5-7 p.m. Turtle Bay has requested RSVPs ([email protected]) and has graciously provided the space and logistics for the event.
A memorial bench will be created within the animal
habitats that he loved. To contribute online:

John's ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean so that he can continue his travels around the world.
John leaves behind many friends and loved ones. He will be missed by all who enjoyed his quirky humor, his honesty, his gentle/thoughtful spirit, his caring and his hugs. Please come and share your stories of John.
