Lara died 28 years after suffering a traumatic brain injury from a self inflicted wound.

Lara is survived by her mother Patricia Ames-Urie of Anderson, California and a father, whose whereabouts is unknown. She is also survived by her godfather and cousin William Garner of the Bronx, New York.

Lara was born in Davisville, Rhode Island on November 1, 1967. She grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and moved to California with her mother and brother, Clinton Ames-Hughes, in 1979. Lara attended school in Southern California and at Saugus High School until she returned to Virginia in 1984. In Williamsburg, Virginia she lived with her grandparents and attended high school with the intent of continuing her education in Virginia.

No child should ever precede the parents in death. It opposes the natural order of things. I cannot even imagine your loss. I hope you find some comfort in the hearts of your friends who grieve with you.
