Melissa Anderson Obituary

Melissa Anderson

Redding, CA

A beloved member of the Redding community, Melissa Anderson passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2018. Born in San Mateo, CA to Junell and Lloyd Gill on February 26, 1960. Melissa graduated from Analy High School in Sebastopol and later went on to pursue her passion for cooking and baking, attending the Tante Marie culinary school in San Francisco. Melissa's family came to Redding in the late 1970's opening the Morral Deli and later Junell's Restaurant and Catering.

Melissa met her husband Mike in 1987 at the Holiday Inn. Love at first sight led to their wedding on September 10, 1988. Mike and Melissa were blessed with a wonderful family; daughter Lauren and twin boys, Jordan and Chase. Her proudest moments included Lauren opening her business; Jordan graduating with a Bachelor's in Nursing Degree from Boise State, and Chase's promotion with CalFire as a Fire Apparatus Engineer and watching him marry the love of his life, Taylor.

Melissa was not only a full time mother to her own children, but was a mom to all kids. She had the purest, most nurturing heart and brought immense love and joy to all who knew her.

Melissa appreciated everything about the great outdoors-she especially enjoyed mountain biking, running on the river trail, hiking with her family, and spending time on the river.

The staggering impact of Melissa's absence, vibrancy and love for life and family is indescribable but the family is determined to live out one of her favorite quotes:

"Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things break. And all things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is in you." - LR Knost

She is survived by her husband Mike and children Lauren, Chase (Taylor) and Jordan Anderson. Her mother Junell, and siblings; Greg (Jackie), Michelle (Paul), Scott (Katie) and Vickie; Sister-in-law Lora (Jim), Brother-in-law Jeff(Sherri); thirteen nieces and nephews, and fourteen great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on January 12th at Neighborhood Church in Redding at 11am, with a celebration of life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Fives Foundation.

My heart breaks for Mike, Melissa's mom, and Jordan, Chase, and Lauren. Melissa was such a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She was my room mother when the boys were in third grade at Shasta. She sure knew how to give a party! Melissa was so fun and creative, everything she did for our class made wonderful memories. God bless and keep each of you.
