Robert Fischer Obituary

Robert (Bob) Edward Fischer

Redding - Robert (Bob) Edward Fischer, 78, of Redding passed away peacefully at his home on May 25, 2021.

Bob was born on September 4, 1942 in Whiting Indiana to Robert and Ruth Fischer. The family moved to Southern California and Bob grew up in the San Fernando Valley. He graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1960.

Bob had many friends in So Cal who he spent time with drag racing both on the street and strip. He also loved the ocean and spent time sailing and surfing. He began working as a welder at Rocketdyne.

He married Ann Bishop in 1963 and they had two sons, Eric and Todd. The family moved to Redding in 1969. Bob quickly found work as a Millwright. He survived the horrible fire at the US Plywood Novoply plant in Anderson in 1976. During his years at Novoply, Bob opened Country Cycles motorcycle shop. He was a dealer for Maico motorcycles. He was known as an expert mechanic, fabricator and welder.

Bob had a passion for racing motorcycles. He was known all over Northern California as a fierce competitor on the track and a genuine friend off the track. He won countless trophies in both motocross and hair scrambles. He also promoted and operated a motocross track in Corning California.

Bob began a 32-year career as a millwright at Calaveras Cement Plant in 1976. He retired in 2008. He loved working with the guys at the plant. He remained life long friends with many of his coworkers.

Bob loved the many lakes in the Redding area. He spent a lot of time with his family and friends camping and fishing in the Castle Craigs wilderness area. He loved water skiing, fishing and racing around in his Bayon jet boat on both Shasta Lake and Whiskeytown Lake. He also spent many years sailing on Whiskeytown Lake and competing in the annual regatta. Bob continued to love sailing right up until the end. When it got hot in Redding, Bob could be found navigating the waters of San Francisco Bay.

Bob and his zest for life will surely be missed, but his legacy will live on forever!

Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert G. Fischer.

He is survived by his mother Ruth, sister Jan, sons Eric (Kim), Todd (Nikki), adopted son Johnny Fitzgerald, grandsons Zachary, Austin, Brock, Porter, Carter, nephew Willie, niece Wendy, and loving partner Judith Fitzpatrick.

A celebration of life will be held July 10th at 1:00 PM at The American Legion Hall in Shasta lake City.

Bob and my dad worked and played together for many years. To say these guys were living life to the fullest is an understatement. Two words that describe them--- Full Throttle. They were loved by all, except the guys that crossed them.
