Robert Richelieu Obituary

Robert (Bob) William Richelieu

Shasta, CA

Following a courageous six-week battle with cancer, Robert (Bob) William Richelieu went to be with his parents and his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018, with his family by his side. Bob came into this world on 11/11/35, the first son born of Virgil and Neva Richelieu. Bob grew up in Los Molinos, Ca, working side by side with his parents and siblings on the Richelieu Family Walnut Ranch. Bob was an exemplary basketball player both at Red Bluff High School and at Shasta College, where he scored a record 428 points in two seasons. Bob was inducted into the Shasta College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.

From Shasta College, Bob transferred to the University of Oregon and earned a degree in Architecture. He took great pride in being a lifelong University of Oregon Duck fan. In 1958, Bob married Carlene Eleanor Richelieu (nee: Braathen) and together they had two children, Rodney Steven and Lianne Renee, who were the pride and joy of his life.

Bob will be remembered as an accomplished architect and builder, having owned Richelieu Architecture and Construction in Redding for over three decades. During his long career Bob designed and built hundreds of homes, hotels, and professional buildings in the states of California, Nevada, Oregon and Colorado. Bob was also a lifetime member of the Redding Elks Lodge, and an accomplished horseman, hunter, and fisherman- lifetime passions of his that he loved to share with his friends and family.

Bob loved his family and was often the person that others turned to in times of need. As the eldest child, he felt a keen sense of responsibility to his all members of his extended family and loved them all from cradle to grave. Because he so valued his family who called the North State "home" for over six generations, his dying wish was to have his children erect an historical marker to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Richelieu Family Walnut Ranch, as well as other long-term family ranches which are so important to the Tehama County area. Bob further asked that only a small private family burial be held at the time of his passing, and once the historical marker was in place, that a Celebration of Life be held in May of 2019 at the Richelieu Family cabin in Mineral, Ca.

In lieu of flowers, it would please our father if donations could be made in his name to the incredible non-profit organization, Field of Dreams. The mission of Field of Dreams is "to provide the means and opportunity to participate in activities like hunting and fishing, to special needs kids, individuals who have served in the US military, and/or their children". Bob, his son Rod, and many other members of the Richelieu family were/are veterans, and this organization assists veterans with life changing experiences that often save lives of those with PTSD. Donations may be made to "Field of Dreams", and mailed to P.O. Box 217, Colusa, Ca. 95932, or see their website at https://www.fieldofdreamsinc.org.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; Virgil and Neva Richelieu. He is survived by his son Rodney Richelieu (Susan), his daughter Lianne Richelieu (John), Special friend Dianne Roberts, son-in-law Dave Boren, four Grandchildren; Jess Richelieu, Jack Richelieu, Sean Boren and Kaiya Boren; three siblings, Jim Richelieu(Barb), Fred Richelieu(Carol), Gladys Wooden(Art), six nieces and nephews and several very close cousins and extended family members.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff at Eisenhower Hospital in Palm Springs, as well as eternal gratitude to Bob's "second daughter", Shelly Puckett, who ensured that our father's final days at Vibra Hospital in Redding were happy ones. Special gratitude as well to the nurses, social workers and doctors at Vibra, who treated our father with amazing care, compassion and deep respect during his final two weeks with us.

Speaking on behalf of my deceased husband, Dudley Long, and me, I extend my deepest sympathies to Bob's family. Dudley and Bob went through elementary school and high school together and he considered Bob a great man. I remember when truckloads of lumber came in to our yard so he could do some building in our warehouse. The building was done and off it went to the motel site. At present we lease the orchard. Great parents and family. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you. I am sending in a memorial to the Dairyville Community Club Scholarship Fund. His name will be on the memorial display at our Pancake Breakfast and the Dairyville Orchard Festival.
