Shirley McDonald Obituary

Shirley Jean McDonald

1935 - 2015

Born on February 16, 1935 in Anaheim, CA. to Floyd and Callie Roseberry, Shirley Jean McDonald passed from this life on Sunday February 1st, 2015 after living a long joyous life.

Shirley met her future husband Doug in high school, and they were soon married. Doug joined the Highway Patrol, which moved them around a little during their lifetime, with stops in Santa Ana, Fontana, San Bernardino, Palo Cedro, and then Redding.

Shirley worked as a waitress for Mr. B's coffee shop in San Bernardino in the late sixties, and also worked the snack bar at her sons Kirk and Rob's baseball games. She was also a Den Mother for a Cub Scout Den for three years. After moving to Redding Shirley spent 20 years as a teacher's aide at Junction school first in a volunteer capacity, and then as a paid teacher's aide.
Always artistic with ceramics, and flower arrangements as well as her gardens, in her retirement years Shirley loved to paint, and each of her family members and a few of her friends have paintings she painted hanging on their walls.

Shirley was preceded in death by five brothers, her husband Doug in 2001, and her son Kirk in 2002. She leaves behind her sister Wilma Georgeson, daughter Carinne & (Bill) Kent and her son Rob McDonald. She also leaves behind grandson's Jeff & Michael Kent, Ryan McDonald, and granddaughters Laura Zumkehr, Deanna Beck, Stacey Comer, Callie Combs, Amber Whitehead, Kayla Clark, and nineteen great grandkids.

A celebration of life will be held at Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Palo Cedro on Monday February 9th at 11:00 a.m.

Grandma Shirley is as amazing an fits the title of "My Great Grandma Shirley Jean McDonald" ~ that is actually the name I heard every time I have seen my amazing Grandmother in last 3 years. I just had to explain to my daughter this year that all they other kids did actually know her name when she told them Grandma is not her right name. She then understood and even realized how amazing honor and she loved Makila Jean McDonald was only one who does call her by full name that others didn't even know and she has since time could talk. Every part my Grandmother was amazing the day her and I sat down as asked if could use Jean she grabbed notepad out drawer and wrote Makila Jean McDonald in cursive print & sloppy & the smile she had when looked up and said I think that would be a beautiful name. Thats when instead mention few ideas that was name & when asked few times wrote she said all ages she learns to write it will look right. That is how amazing and beautiful my life with her always was. My daughter will hold that honor and forever I will have gift she was to me.

My mom was one special lady, friend, neighbor, Grandma, and of course mom.
I have nothing but the fondest memories of every aspect of my life with her. She loved her family, and grand kids and great grand kids the most. She lit up any time children were around, and one of her greatest joys was as a teacher's aid at Junction School in Palo Cedro. Everybody in the family has a painting on their wall she painted.
Shirley Jean McDonald, you will be missed so much my beautiful mother.
