Stephen Ehlers Obituary

Stephen Wayne Ehlers 63, of Redding died at his home November 18, 2010.
He was born in San Francisco, February 18, 1947.

He began his career in the Butcher's Union in 1963, completing his apprenticeship as a Journeyman Meat Cutter in 1967. He served as a Firefighter for approximately 13 years for the cities of Palo Alto and Menlo Park. His love for outdoor recreation brought him to Shasta County in 1985, where he continued as a Meat cutter for Raleys or the Past 25 years.
He had various interests including photography, scuba diving, jet skiing, and most recently geocacheing. But he would tell you his "true passion" was motorcycle riding. He has been riding motorcycles since the age of 14. He attended various dual sport motorcycle rides annually. He was a 10 year member of Redding Harley Owner's Group, serving as Road Captain in 2005. Although he's had various bikes during his lifetime, he would say his favorite bike was his BMW 1200 GS.
He was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Betty Ehlers. His brother John Ehlers, and son James Ehlers. Survivors include his wife Connie Ehlers of Redding, his sister Debbie De Young of Mesa AZ, his sons, Steve Ehlers of San Carlos, Barry Ehlers of Burlingame and seven grandchildren.
Steve was a beloved member of the community and held a special place in the hearts of family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
Arrangements are being handled by Allen and Dahl of Redding.

Steve was so much fun to do the sheet iron and lost coast duel sport rides with. Each year he would haul me and my bike when asked why he wouldn't let me share some of the cost he just said hey I'm glad your here keep your money lets have fun. I will do the rides but they will never be as good with out my friend Steve.

Connie and loved ones, Steve was such a giving and caring man. He lived with a great passion for life and gave 110% in all of his activities and achievements. He had many interests but it was apparent that his loved ones and his wife were the center of his life. He always had an amusing thought or nugget of wisdom he was willing to share. I will miss his sense of humor, he always made me laugh. He will be missed by many. May the many happy memories you have of Steve help you in this time of loss.

Dear Friends, Steve was a wonderful, concerned, and caring person. I was a customer of his at his place of work here in Redding. Steve was always kind and helpful. I haven't seen Steve in years but used to work with him at Raley's. He was always very nice to me. To the family and close friends I am sorry for your loss. He was much too young to go, but he is in a good place now.

I first met Steve when I came to Redding with Tom Marinkovich in August, 2000 to go fishing. While waiting for Steve to get off duty from Raley's, I looked at a real estate magazine and decided that day to move here. I love the area and considered Steve a good friend. I will miss his ready smile.

I will not wish him rest; he wouldn’t use it - the man didn’t fancy sitting still. Steve’s gone on to the next adventure. He lived life fully, he wanted for nothing. He is released from the impulses of instinct, the clumsiness of the mind, and the limits of the body. Steve is I am sure, engrossed in his next great adventure; profound in death as he was in life. Whatever he’s doing, I’m certain it’s well organized, top of the line, and in a BMW. See you Steve.
