William A. Hayward Sr. age 72 of Redding, passed away July 1, 2017 at his home.
William (Bill) Hayward was born November 25, 1944. The son of Arthur Lewis Hayward and Wanda Lucille Henry. He was a lifelong resident of Shasta County and a proud Wintu of the Redding Rancheria.
He belonged to Laborer Union 185. He worked the H3 tunnel with his youngest son Michael John Hayward Sr. in Honolulu, Hawaii. This was a very proud life experience for Bill and his youngest son Michael. He also worked all across the country doing mining and tunnel jobs. He was a Redding Rancheria Tribal Elder and in the past was an honored elder of the year.
Bill was a very active tribal elder for his tribe. In the past he was employed at the casino as a coin-master. He was on the interview committee and did anything he could for his tribe.
He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Lewis Hayward and mother Wanda Lucille Haller, brother Orval Hayward, step-son Merle Albert Jr., and grandson Michael Hayward Jr.
Bill leaves behind his loving wife Theresa Hayward and sons Will Hayward, Gary Hayward Sr., Michael Hayward Sr., daughter Danyel Sherwood and step-daughter Jade Albert, daughter-in-laws, Denise Hayward and Lawana Hayward.
Grandsons Gary Hayward, Justin Sherwood, Daniel Sherwood, Kai Albert, and Cody Winn.
Granddaughters, Kristine Taxara, Taylor Hayward, Malia Manutai, and Chantel Winn.
Great-grandsons Mason & Emmitt Taxara and Asher Hayward. Great-granddaughter Alayla Manutai.
Bill is also survived by his two brothers, Mac Hayward and Bud Haller and one sister, Karen Hart.
Services will be held on Saturday July 8, 2017 @ 12:00 pm at Allen & Dahl in Palo Cedro. Bill will be buried alongside his father Arthur Lewis Hayward at the Sisk/Timmons family cemetery in Shasta Lake. Food to follow at the Redding Rancheria Community Center at 2000 Redding Rancheria Road in Redding.
