William Lockwood II Obituary

William Riley Lockwood II

1974 - 2014

William Riley Lockwood II, age 39, passed away March 28, 2014 with his wife Tara at his side gently and lovingly supporting him on his journey home. Will never gave up fighting his cancer diagnosis. His optimistic nature, bravery, and determination was an inspiration to all who knew him. Even as his treatment options ended, Will displayed grit, drive, and energy while staying involved in his children's lives attending their baseball, basketball, soccer and scouting events. During his last month he went on an RV trip to the coast to see his cherished Pacific Ocean and sunsets one last time with his family.

Even as obvious as it was that he did not feel well, he never once complained. He loved being with his family, walking his adored dog Kaylie, and following his beloved 49ers, Giants, and Indiana sporting events. It was easy to believe that if anyone could beat this disease it would be Will.

Will was born October 18,1974 in Woodland, California. As a young boy he moved to Seneca, Missouri and enjoyed a normal Midwest childhood, river rafting and excelling at Track at Seneca High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 1998. He served two years in the US Air Force.

Will met Tara and proposed to her in Hawaii after she found a necklace in the sand that was imprinted with the words "I love you." They married April 28, 2001. Hawaii became a favorite family vacation spot as Will taught his children to snorkel, a skill they still enjoy practicing in their backyard pool.

Will began working at Ciber as Director of Technology in 1998, a job that allowed him to move to Redding to be close to family. The north state afforded him opportunities to hike, water ski, and snow ski, hobbies that he loved.

He is survived by his wife Tara, his three sons, Alex, Nicholas, and Zachary, his father Bill, his mother Bobi and her husband Dan, parents-in-law, Don and Sandy, siblings, Robert, Joel, John, Spring, and Noelle, and his brother-in-law and his wife, Brad and Amy.

The impression that Will made on the community was evidenced by the number of visitors who streamed daily to visit him. He greatly appreciated this support and made it known to everyone. Visitors were drawn to his light. His positive, confident and buoyant spirit is his endowment. He did not go gently but his faith brought him peace. The courage to fight is his legacy to his three boys. Ralph Waldo Emmerson said, "It is not the length of life but the depth." Will Lockwood knew this to be true.

Services will be held Friday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ at Latter Day Saints, 3410 Churn Creek Road, Redding.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a fund set aside for the Lockwood boys at US bank 1110 Dana Drive Redding, CA 96003.

My deepest condolences to his Bills family. I worked with him in the Indiana Air Guard, he was so wonderful to work with and so much fun. His smile was infectious. All of us here have missed him since he left and miss him even more now. I pray he keep a barstool for all of his AMMO brothers when it's our time to join him. In the meantime, I will toast the fond memory of him. Love you brother.
