Caroline Adams Obituary

Caroline Nadine Victoria Adams
Caroline Nadine Victoria Adams, 88 years, died on July 14, 2018 at her home in Redlands, with a smile on her face and a joke running through her head; her house was clean and her laundry done and folded (if it didn't happen this way, that's the way she intended!)
Caroline was born September 7, 1929, in Santa Barbara, CA, to Charles W. (Chig) and Evelyn Miller Varner. She was educated in Santa Barbara Public Schools and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1947 as a member of the Scholarship Society. She graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1951, with honors in English. She also attended Occidental College and Santa Barbara Business College. Caroline earned her Master's degree in Library Science in 1978 at California State University at Fullerton, where she commuted from Redlands.
During her life Caroline was known by several names, as "Carolyn Nadine Varner" "That Waitress at Broome's Restaurant" in Santa Barbara; "Chig's daughter;" "Marylou's Sister;" "Carolyn Varner Hudspeth;" "Mrs. Harold R. Hudspeth;" (although her name was never "Harold"); "The Pastor's Wife;" "Christine's, Pamela's, Paula's and Howard's Mother;" "Mandy-Nandy" (the 4-year-old clown living inside her head when she entertained residents of nursing homes with her Denver church clown troupe); and "Ms. Caroline N.V. Adams," after she fixed up her name with her divorce in 1984.
In 1957 she married Harold (Hal) Hudspeth, and from 1957 to 1960 she worked on her "PHT" (Putting Hubby Through) San Francisco Theological Seminary (Presbyterian) in San Anselmo, Marin County, where Hal studied for his masters in Divinity and ordination as a Presbyterian Minister.
In addition to her formal education, Caroline's life-time learning consisted of various jobs that included waitress in her family's restaurant and Legal Secretary for a District Attorney in Santa Barbara, "Girl Friday" for a publisher and Executive Secretary for the Treasurer of a large printing corporation in San Francisco, Staff Assistant at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver and wife of a Presbyterian Pastor in Sherman Oaks, San Diego, Redlands and Denver.
Her greatest career was her family: Christine Hudspeth (now Kister), Tom Kister, twins Pamela and Paula (now Reece) Hudspeth, and son, the late Howard Hudspeth; grandchildren Stephanie and Wayne Kramer, Christopher and Collie Bowles; and Hallee Johnson; and Great grandchildren Harrison, Madilyn and Preston Kramer; Samantha and Jacob Bowles all of whom live in the Redlands area; Jay & Alicia Kister (with their eight children) in Mesa, Arizona and Matt & Angie Kister (with their four children) in Bountiful, Utah. She loves and is proud of all of them. She is also survived by her sister, Marylou Varner Faris of Camarillo, Ca.
Caroline treasured her close friends in Denver and Redlands, especially at Community Presbyterian Church.

A great lady! Her mom and dad were absolutely wonderful. And, Hello to Marylou! I was looking for info on Chig (Caroline's dad) on line and came upon this obituary. Caroline's face is just like I remember her from, back in the 40's! Minnie and Chig, you turned out a fantastic daughter! Love, Linda Bryant Lawrence
